Coolio should know better than to bring another woman home to the house he shares with his girlfriend ... and he should also know better than to allegedly punch her in the face.

TMZ has learned the rap legend -- aka Artis Ivey Jr. -- was popped on April Fools' Day after he allegedly pushed Anabella Chatman to the ground and punched her in the face. And to add insult to injury ... according to the police report, Coolio then hightailed it out of there with their toddler son and the other woman.

Actually ... he didn't get out clean. Anabella says Coolio struck her with his car as he beat his hasty retreat -- in fact, cops say she had tire marks on her leg. Pretty compelling evidence.

Coolio tried convincing cops HE was the victim and that she scratched him in a jealous rage, but they weren't buyin' what he was sellin' ... so he was taken to the pokey.

Calls to Coolio were not returned.

You know, Coolio has really lost his damn mind ever since he lost on Celebrity Big Brother UK.

Coolio was just on Celebrity Wife Swap not too long ago: he loves to stay out all night, take off and leave town without giving any details, ignore his then girlfriend's kids, and never lifts a finger around the house (even tho his girl was working two jobs). He seems like such a catch!

But seriously, who would go anywhere with his triflin' behind after seeing how he behaves with women? As a female, how stupid would you have to be, considering the man practically did a one hour show that was the equivalent to being a national tv advertisement for him as proud, self-centered commitment phobe, who's only just now leaving adolescence to jump head first into mid-life identity crisis? Go figure.

Yup. That wasn't clear enough in my post, sorry . It takes me back to the point that I really intended to make; after seeing what a trifling mess he was with her, what woman in her right mind would be running off to hang out with this fool

That ex-girlfriend of his may have looked a little ragged and worse for the wear (when i saw her I was like , Girl, where you strippin' ?) But she was a damn good mom, with well-behaved, well spoken children who had respect for themselves and their elders. She was a rational, logical, scheduled person who you could see invested herself into family life as a loving, but strictly no-nonsense matriarch who, even killing herself to work till dawn in the Vegas nightlife, was all about stability--- even though she didn't have a traditional job. Coolio was like the 4th damned kid in the house. When she decided that she deserved better, I was like, you go' girl.
