Your Restaurant, Bar, Grill, Takeout, etc/ Recommendations?

What are some of Your Favorite places to eat in or order from?

I went to appleBee's for the first time. The food was very good. I had the Hamburger sliders and fries. And an extra large glass of Pepsi. I guess the Mayor can't stop them from serving 16 oz. glasses of soda. The Hamburgers were well cooked, I do not like meat that is under cooked. The fries were perfectly seasoned and they gave enough for two people.

Applebee's:

I will be going back to eat there soon. Their menu offers a variety of pasta dishes(my favorite), salads, steaks, chicken, ribs, seafood, etc.

The restaurants I visit most often here are:

Evergreen Chinese - It's a hole in the wall kinda place (it's actually in a basement) and it’s not cute, but it’s great Chinese with lots of vegetarian options. My favorite dishes include a spicy cucumber salad, lemongrass mock beef and sweet and sour mock pork.

Marina Deli – It’s a Mediterranean buffet. Yummy hummus and falafel and salads and all that kinda stuff.

Pizza Luce – They have good pizza, but they have a yummy, and extremely reasonably priced brunch on weekends.

Q Cumbers – It’s an all-you-can-eat salad bar. My bf and I eat there frequently. I generally make one big salad and then get a bowl of whatever vegetarian soup they have and finish it off w/soft serve ice cream. I joke that we’ll probably be eating there together when we’re 60.

Kartha Thai – Small Thai restaurant that very good and very reasonable. It’s not cute, so takeout works just as well, but the staff is nice.

There are all kinds of places for me to recommend around here, especially for a more fancy meal as I tend not to do that often, but those are the places I go to again and again.

Those places sound good. I like chinese food and love pizza. I like to try foods from different countries/cultures. That is food. Not insects, lol.

papa John's Pizza:

I like the Pizza from Papa John's. The slices are perfect and contains great ingredients. I do not buy pizza from the places I used to ,because in New York, a slice costs almost $3. Besides the price, the Pizza is usually old, burned crust, etc. I will be naming those bad places later!

I try to avoid chain restaurants if I can help it - so my recommendations would mean nothing. shrug

I do like Panera Bread, though. Their mac-n-cheese is pretty damn tasty.

Also...I have no idea why...but Diet Coke tastes different (ie, better) at McDonald's than anywhere else. I can't stand Diet Coke in a bottle, but I loves me some nice, fizzy DC from McDonald's after a bike ride.

Applebee's:

Of the local chains that we have here which are similar (Applebee's, Chilli's, Houlihans & Ruby Tuesday's) I like Ruby Tuesday the best. Houlihans has excellent drinks and the burgers are better, but it's pricier and the menu is limited when it comes to kids.

If you're ever in East Oakland you should stop by Champa Garden.

Thai & Lao food.

Friendly crowd, amazing food, and low prices.

I recommend:

1) Fried wrapped spring rolls (ap)

2) Pad Thai

3) Mango fried rice

4) Pad see-ew

5) Basil fried rice (spicy)

I cannot believe you eat at these places.

You might as well eat at any fast food chain. It's the same shit.

You should support you local restaurants, especially those that buy from local growers.

razz

Actually I don't frequent them as much as I used to back in the happily married days.

The only times I go to one of these joints nowadays is when the kids want to go.

When it's me and adult companions, we typically go to smaller, local places.

Unfortunately, there are mostly chain restaurants where I live. I get tired of Applebees, TGIF, Red Lobster, Chilis, etc. They are all basically the same. Even Cheesecake Factory is chainy. I was surprised that I had a halfway pleasant meal at that chain Italian restaurant, Olive Garden.

I've found that one can get the best Chinese fare at those hole-in-the-wall mom & pop joints. You know the kind that look kind of dumpy, usually just a few tables and mostly carryout. There used to be a place in DC that you would have never thought had edible food, the place was so drab. But the foodin that place was fantastic. It was strictly carryout. You walked in the door and the only thing you saw was the wok stove and cash register behind plexiglass. You'd stand there and watch the cook prepare the food. It was a show the way he tossed or swirled the food in that wok. Damn shame the place burned down.

This is so true. My sweetie and I have been to Dubuque (Iowa) many times, but had never had a decent meal in that town until we found this little hole-in-the-wall Asian place on our last visit. It's in a seedy neighborhood and the place is very run down. But the food was insane. I thought Sweetie was going to go for a swim in his hot and sour soup, he was so over the moon about it. My wonton soup was just as good (obviously a from-scratch chicken broth). And the Pad Thai was swoon-worthy.

Based on the place's appearance and the fact that we were the only people in the place (it was a very cold night), we almost didn't stay. Were we ever glad we did!

I went to the Olive Garden a month ago. The ravioli with meat sauce is delicious. The salad and breadsticks was also great. I had to bring half of my plate of raviolis home because I was full from the salad and breadsticks.
