Roland Martin Confirms He’s Leaving CNN

For weeks there have been rumors swirling that CNN’s new boss Jeff Zucker was firing both Soledad O’Brien and Roland Martin. Later,roland-martin3 (2) O’Brien revealed that she wasn’t leaving CNN, but taking on a much more diminished role at the network. Earlier today, Roland Martin confirmed via tweet that he is being let go from CNN as well:

Roland Martin leaving CNN

FishbowlDC reported in February that Bob Butler, Vice President of Broadcast for the National Association of Black Journalists, had posted a note on the group’s Yahoo list serve saying that he, President Greg Lee, and Executive Director Maurice Foster, were sitting down with Zucker today to discuss minorities at the network. As it stands, it doesn’t appear as if that meeting actually did very much good.

Soledad O’Brien was removed from her morning spot at Starting Point after Zucker took over the network. She recently spoke with Mediaite about her rocky relationship with the network.

Among the problems, according to O’Brien, were lack of marketing dollars, a thinly staffed operation, and lack of vision among CNN executives in terms of what kind of show Starting Point should be.

“You really cannot successfully do a show when nobody really agrees what the show is.” she said.

In addition to CNN, Roland Martin also moderates Washington Watch on TV One.

CNN is LONG over-due for a serious revamping. You can look at their Morning & Primetime lineup and see that everybody is just coasting along LOST...

I Like Roland & Soledad and both could be VERY successfu1 Anchors/Contributors if the Network were in their corner. The SAME Genious that REVAMPED MSNBC entire Netowrk is gonna do the same for CNN so we know the Network is gonna feature a Diverse group of Contributors and Anchors...

I HOPE CNN stays in the Middle of Politics and doesnt go all the way to The Right...I noticed the Guy they got hosting a 4pm NEW show in April is Moderate and more to the Right...So we'll see how the Morning & Primetime shows come together over the next 12-months.

Soledad is CNN's "Andria Mitchell" and MSNBC made sure Andria had a TOP spot in Daytime when it was revamped...But all we hear from Soledad is that she's still doing her Specials but thats about it..Sad waste of Her Popularity and amazing Talent. If MSNBC had room they'd offer her a Job..

CNN also got rid of Democratic Royalty Advisor James Carvel and he's now over at MSNBC...

Like I said the Executive shaking things up took MSNBC all the way to the left...Maybe CNN is telling him to make its Network Middle to the Right....I hope not cuz I wont watch at all and I barely watch as it is..

as for Piers Morgan, he SHOULD have been FIRED on day 5...He wants to be a White Wendy Williams at Night...You know, trying to insult the guests but with a Smile and a laugh...I Love Wendy but she's that way and Piers is her Twin....

Because MSNBC revamping was a MAJOR success I'm not gonna make any judgments until we see more People get added over the Spring...

I'm not hating on anyone, but I personally think that CNN as a whole is nothing more than a corporate news agency and not an independend news agency. My reply on Cuddle's comment was with regards to cancelling that entire network.

You would NOT be off the Mark.

I worked for one of the world's largest companies once, and CNN NEVER reported

on some of the shady things we were doing in the 2000's. There's no way that

they could not have known some of this stuff. Yet, we only appeared in the news

once the situation was so obvious that the independent smaller guys were able

to report on it.

Also, during the early Iraq war years, CNN (along with the other obvious big

names in News media) failed to report on many of the stupid things Bush was

doing or saying with regards to things taking place on our own soil.

Bush's handling of our economy was as criminal as his impeachable

plans to take us to war.

And of course, with Obama, they are letting Obama get away with far, far

too much due to his popularity. The News (and Newspapers) are not supposed

to be friends with the goverment. They are supposed weed through the

spin and give the population the scoop---that hasn't happened in years

and years.

About the closest you'll get on some of these networks is Rachel Maddow,

but I'm assuming she's gagged a little bit. The issue I take with Rachel

is how partisan she is.

Ottensen

The thing about CNN that most people don't realize is that they pool from about 17 different demographics/stations under their belt, so what you see on the network differs from country to country.

My CNN here in Germany pools from the CNN desks in Hong Kong, London, and Africa- we (thankfully) only checks into NY for the stock reports for less than five minutes a day, M-F. Frankly I'm quite satisfied with the programming as it comes froma global perspective where world events are concerned, and is a little bit more sophisticated in its remaining content regarding arts, culture, etc..

If i was stuck having to watch the goo at the bottom of a cup that is the CNN Headquarters ATL/NY desks, I think it would give me indigestion, too.

I am only able to keep up with CNN USA personalities online (unless they work desks talking international finance or international headlines) But I do want to add that I am supportive of Soledad O'Brien's work (she is The Most), and Anderson Cooper's. Anderson's work I'm more familiar with as a journalist from magazines I used to subscribe to decades ago vs. his CNN work. He is an intelliegent man and I appreciate that. Roland is a smart guy, I can't get into him outside of the topics immediatey affecting the US.

That's your opinion...There are Journalists and Entertainers/Athletes & on & on that arent attractive as some of their peers but still get PLENTY of camera time.

Example...Sarah Palin is a Beautiful woman and FOX news Viewers loved her form of Entertainment but FOX News dumped her Beautiful ass because she wasnt a Solid contributor. She's a rock-thrower not a legit commentator.

Isn't CNN that company that influences the general opinion into feeling sorry for a rapist who drugged a 16-year old, raped her repeatedly, dumped her in a garden and pissed on her?

http://www.upworthy.com/cnn-pays-touching-tribute-to-the-rapists-who-attacked-a-16-year-old-girl?g=2&c=upw1

CNN is not very neutral when they report about events that happened.

Therefore they should not handle the incorrect label of "news" to their communication content.

A label in the line of "broadcasting sensatious, biased, female unfriendly not critically researched stories, in order to make a lof of money for the CEO's"

Isn't that what CNN really is? Or am I wrong?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Um all news stations/newspapers/magazines are opinionated and push the agenda that their owners want.

This isn't a new thing.
