I loved that film as a kid. Mainly because of seeing Michael, of course. But the entire film was fun. Every time I saw Diana in it, it seemed like she would have Mahogany/Lady Sings flashbacks. I didn't know Stephanie Mills was the original voice behind Home until years later though. I think the reason the film wasn't a bigger hit in the box office was mainly the casting and probably the production. That said, Richard Pryor was great as an announcer. It's wild how this film became something of a cult classic anyway.

I LOVE this movie and thought everyone was great in it.
Whoever those dancers were did it for me, they were some dancing fools. My favorite two scenes is the Fashion Color Walk and Evilenes Sweat Shop.
Diana was dead ass wrong to snatch the role they way she did, I remember my father being put off by that move quite a bit...
HOWEVER
That chic did the damn thing in the movie, those little skinny legs surprised the hell out of me!
Lena Horne....well that performance is just pure CLASS. It's my Favorite SONG of the movie. "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

The Wiz" had its NYC premiere at the Loews Astor Plaza and the after party was held at the Windows On The World restaurant at the World Trade Center.
LaToya stayed with Michael in NYC while he filmed "The Wiz." They frequented Studio 54 quite often during this period.

Yea! I remember Janet saying she stayed with MJ during that period on her hiatus from Good Times. She went to Studio 54 with him. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in there. The 70's was the in time to party in clubs,it was way before the aids epidemic hit & it was anything goes. Especially in Studio 54.. I bet MJ turned it out on the dance floor & Diana was high as a kite.. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

the World Trade Center featured in the movie
A classic WTC Stargate sync can be found in "The Wiz". The yellow brick road ends right at the Kaaba representing sculpture "The Sphere" which stood between the towers until 911. The word OZ has been fashioned over the giant bronze sphere for the film. OZ resonates 77 and the Goat god Pan through Gematria, which is really just O.G. synchromysticism.
Norma Kamali designed the costumes for the hyper-colored Emerald City sequences in The Wiz (1978) with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. [Edited 4/26/13 10:52am]

25. Home (Finale) - Dorothy
Home is a song from the 1975 Broadway musical, The Wiz. The song was performed by Stephanie Mills in the stage production and by Diana Ross in the 1978 film adaptation and released on the soundtrack album in 1978. Whitney Houston made her world debut on "The Merv Griffin Show" on April 29, 1983 performing this song. The song was rerecorded in 1989 for the Stephanie Mills album of the same name, and she took to number one on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart. The single would be the last of five number ones for Mills on the R&B chart.[ Think of home

Our entire family went and saw "The Wiz" at the theater when it came out...one of my earliest movie memories (I was 4 years old). I dont know why but that movie scared the shit out of me and i have never watched it again. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....
