Full article here: http://social.entertainme...fd9eee7d73 Director shares details o...y' sequelsRoland Emmerich says 2nd and 3rd films are on the wayBy DonKaye_ParallelUniverse 7 hours ago
![]() When 1996's "Independence Day" ended, humankind had pulled itself out of the wreckage of an Earth pulverized by alien invaders and managed to eke out an improbable victory against their attackers. But director Roland Emmerich says that the marauders from space are coming back.
"Independence Day," with its patriotic tone and jaw-dropping scenes of New York, Washington and other major cities being blasted to powder by massive alien vessels, was such a colossal hit that rumors of a sequel have been floating around for years.
Emmerich himself, who also co-wrote and co-produced the original with Dean Devlin, has been talking about a follow-up as well -- and now he's revealed details about not one but two films to Entertainment Weekly.
The films, called "ID Forever Part 1" and "ID Forever Part II," have been written by Emmerich and Devlin and handed off to James Vanderbilt (who wrote Emmerich's upcoming "White House Down") for him to do a new draft. The movies are set 20 years after the original, as a distress signal sent by the original invaders as they went down to defeat finally reaches its destination -- which means more of the vicious extraterrestrials are soon on the way. Emmerich said:
Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Just what we need a sequel to a film that sucked. Emmerich & Devil are a couple of Hollywood hacks. I'll never forgive them for that awful 1998 Fakezilla movie.

Sequels? with a 's'? Dear Lawd. How many alien evasion can they take, the last batch did a pretty good job of tearing up stuff, every country went broke trying to fix it. It's been a while since I've seen the movie.

ID4 is a yearly viewing tradition around the 4th of July. I'm not getting excited about the prospect of sequels. This should have happened at 10-15 years ago. It will not be worth it if half of the original cast is not in it. [Edited 3/27/13 16:50pm] "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Emmerich said that plans for a sequel were halted after 9/11, for obvious reasons
the idea of this first sequel seems intriguing: more aliens of the same race are heading out to our planet...why not? it's kind of scary to defeat an alien race but at the same time not being able to celebrate it cuz Earth is practically destroyed and there could be more hostile aliens out there...
I remember liking the first half of the original film, it was an irrelevant alien-invasion movie, sure, but very entertaining; but once the Area 51 appeared the movie went downhill, the "freedom" speech was jingoistic BULLSHIT (completely out of place during the Clinton era) and the "let's defeat their defenses with a computer virus" LAME AS HELL
so it's a half-good/half-awful aliens movie

i loved it too! and I saw it for free a few days early! happened to be driving past a theater saw a line... asked what was up... got in line...loved it! (but then again i tried to watch it a few years ago...and I got 20 mins in and turned it off) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

what I want to know is... when all those ships crashed to earth how many millions of people were killed? seems several major cities would be destroyed...? "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I thought that mother ship was th ewhole race encomassed? the one they uploaded the virus to..thats how they made it sound by stating thru telepathy that they just are like locusts..swarming planets and taking the natural resources
anyways they will have to step up their game in the special effects dept which they will if this craziness ever gets made
and those criticizing ID..I onder if they saw it in a theater in its initial release cause that shit was da bomb back then!
and 2012 is great..harkens back to the disaster films of yore..the ones with the movie posters with all the actors in little boxes on the bottom...some Irwin Allen shit
thats entertainment!

I enjoyed this awful film. But there is no way these sequels are not going to look like video games gone wrong. And it will only have a small chance of being successful if Will Smith is in it. With out Will Smith, it will certainly tank. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

wrong
an if it lhave Will, it will not tank
Will is the most bankable star in Hollywood
and no they will not look like video games..come on now "Climb in my fur."

Even an actor (Will Smith) cant save a crappy film. That was my point. Bad directing, over the top special effects, with a bad script can derail any film. But the film will flop with out Will Smith in it. (Will Smith has to be in it, to save the day and the film!)
99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

oh, Will Smith will be in it, that's obvious
he was in Men in Black 2, Bad Boys 2 and Men in Black 3 for crying out loud
he knows he's a blockbuster star, I guess he's had enough of all those "serious drama" flops he made during the second half of the '00s

The only thing enjoyable about the first film were Bill Pullman's forearms. I'm far less invested in them now. [Edited 5/19/13 1:33am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I am so not excited by this. It's like been too long to care, 17 years. Do something else, already.

Lets see how Will Smith will incorparate his son into this. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
