'Silver Linings Playbook' A rare non-Woody-related foray into a movie theater for me. My thoughts:
A nice fairytale, but a lot of false notes. And they could've easily lost a half-hour.

Saw this yesterday and liked it much more than I thought I would. It was hilarious, I was dying laughing in nearly all of De Niro's scenes. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I thought it was great. Far far better than Woody's hit "Midnight in Paris" if you even want to bring in Allen. Anyone notice a big conceptual part of the film was to edit it and act it from the perception of mania? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Yes, it was like that initially and brilliant at how it exhibited the perception from a manic mind and how it must be to live with someone sufferig from mental illness etc. But then halfway through it became a standard mediocre rom-com. That ruined it for me. And baffled me with all the accolades it recieived. "Climb in my fur."

Wrong movie.
I agree with RD's assessment of it. How Bradley Coopers character fell in love with someone as manipulative as Jennifer whateverhername is, is beyond me. [Edited 3/17/13 9:06am]

it was okay. i honestly dont really know why it was nominated so heavily.
i am a huge fan of david o. russell the director (even though he's kind of a prick), but i really thought it was the least of his films. . [Edited 3/17/13 9:14am] Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

Ex-Moderator | I really liked it. I'm glad it got accolades as there were some amazing performances.
I don't even care that it got all rom-com. It's fun to see that kinda movie get nominated. |

What performances were amazing except for Cooper at the first 15 minutes only.
Jennifer was noting to clap at..she was good but nothing exceptional
the mom who got nominated too..she barely had any lines, and no, even the ones she delivered wasnt worthy ..it made Dame Judi denchs win for Shaespeare In Love seem worthy
Tucker..ho hummed it ..nobody expects him to be hyper or funny in this role but he finally plays it straight and calm and thats supposed to be something?
Now DeNiro..he was solid...and thats because he finally got a role that wasn worthy of his talent
man, some academy people got a lot of (good) fellatio and it paid off imo
I understand nominating other than the typical hisotrical epic or movie hat epose's a near death experience etc but not this one...give me a Blue Valentine, not a Heigel style rom-com

I like him to even with that reputation..have you seen that Lilly Tomlin/Russel blowout from Huckabees? lol oh man.... "Climb in my fur."

I really liked it. Much better story than most of the overly sweet, predictable and cheesey romantic comedies that Hollywood cranks out. Plus this is one of few recent "funny" movies that actuallly gave me a good laugh at parts. If you will, so will I

Po-tay-to, po-tah-to. We don't all have the same taste.
I liked all of actors of the major characters. Not sure about the mom being nominated, I'll give you that, but the rest were deserved in my book. I don't think it disintegrated into Heigel territory either.
I just think it's nice that there were perfomances worthy of nomination in a comedy and that they were included. It doesn't happen often enough. I'll see the long, boring dramas and can appreciate them for what they are, but that's not generally my kinda movie. Actually, now that I think about it the crop for this year was much more enjoyable than most year's oscars. |

But it ended up being that lol.

To me, it was more entertaining that most run of the mill romantic comedies I have seen. I liked that the characters were all flawed and that their interactions reflected that. I get that you didn't like it though . Everybody can't like everything. If you will, so will I

Even at the end, the way the competition event was cut, the way stories were wrapping, and he ran and caught up with her, without complication, got right into it, and then at the very end it's accelerated with every character talking in the house and them already cuddled on the chair. The entire projection of character intros, arcs, and conclusions, all the details were presented without a pause all the way to the character conclusions. People have noticed this, especially people sensitive to the manner in which a movie presents it's ideas and moments through those choices that color the energy of it.
