Anybody planning on watching it? Starts this Monday on A&E.

Not sure. But I will definately be comparing it to the movie.

I don'y care if it fits with movie canon as long as it's good, I'll be watching tonight.

Ive already seen the pilot and the interplay between Norman and is Mother is just creepy/sexual enough to make the show interesting. Bother actors nail the characters. The townies are going to need some fleshing out but it held my attention and will watch more to see if it finds its footing.

Freddie does an amazing job of balancing creepy with adolescence.

It looks kind of boring to me, mostly because it's a prequel but doesn't seem to have much of a connection to Psycho. I don't see how far they can go with it before it gets tedious.

YES! I'm glad I'm not the only one that was thinking that!!

Just watched it, seems interesting. Though maybe should have been set in the 50's/ 60's instead. Norman Bates with an I-Phone just don't seem right.

ITA - but I guess having Norma and Norman wear old-fashioned clothing, drive an old-fashioned car, fill their home and motel with old-fashioned decor was to show that they are 'different'. I wonder if they chose to not just have the show take place in the 50s because it was too expensive or perhaps it makes the plot move along easier, smoother if there are things like cell phones and the internet to play with. Not sure. But I will say I liked the pilot.

I think the 50's 60's feel of the hotel and house gives another wordlyness to the relationship between mother and son. I think it adds to the creep factor.

Now my question is how did dad die? really.

The best horror movies don't have cell phones in them. Having cell phones to make it easier or smoother is a cop out. Honestly don't think that it being set in the 50's/60's would be all that expensive. I think being set in the 50's 60's would give it that film noir feel to it.

I think if they have a clear direction it would not get tedious. Say they plan it to be a 5 year series and end it with norman getting arrested for killing his mother (and others).

ITA. I wasn't saying phones or computers will make it better, I was just trying to figure out why A&E chose to play it in modern times.

So...who has the girl tied up captive? I don't think Norman is that bat crap crazy, just yet.

depending on how deep they went into the ed gein story (which inspired the book) it may be a reference to ed gein's older brother - who died in a brush fire...allegedly

this would also explain the introduction to the older brother in the series...the enmity between him and ed was the similar according to reports: ed's older brother was less dependant on the mother ..which many cite as the real reason for his sudden death..
