I have been using them for years.

I got my mom into using them, and I give them to friends (and have had mild success in getting my friends to use them).

I realized that even on a conservative month, I saved between 40 and 50 grocery bags (plastic ones) a month in the states.

Plus, you can hold so much more in a canvas bag---they're tougher. Fewer bags to carry--more sturdy...just an overall better experience. And carrying them around isn't THAT hard to remember to do. If you drive, always have a few in the trunk of your car. shrug

i have a nice big fat collection that I often use

they mostly consist of the green supermarket ones that look like this.....

but even tho i use them most of the time I still end up with plenty of plastic bags which i use as bin liners

I've used them for years too.

I always have a fold-up one in my purse for stops on the way home from work or wherever and I have a bunch of bigger ones for regular grocery/Target trips. I never take a bag if I can help it.

My bf doesn't use them much but we use any plastic bags for cat litter and paper bags for our recycling. We've both been known to purposely not bring the reusable if we're out of one or the other. boxed

Yes.

And I thing it's a good thing that in The Netherlands you have to pay 10 cents for a plastic bag.

That motivates people to bring their re-usable bags.

Same thing with 'statiegeld'. You pay 25 cents for plastic bottles extra, and you get that returned to you when you bring the bottle back.

And I love it how on trainstations there are different bins for paper waste and other waste.

A friend of me initated the dopper, because he felt he wanted to do something about the plastic soup that threatens sea life.

Dopper just got introduced in the US and Canada, and I hope you guys will get it too!

I only use bags that can be folded up small (and neat) enough to go in my purse - and that are washable. I have some of these (though in red, not pink)...

I also have a very pretty Envirosax bag in a Japanese floral.

I still get plastic bags from the grocery store on occasion, but I re-use those as wastebasket liners in my bathroom. The handles on the bags make them easy to tie off at the top and throw away. And they're free - so I don't have to buy dedicated wastebasket liners.

I do. They are stronger and easier to carry a distance or up flights of stairs.

Don't have a choice anymore where I live. Not for food, at least. On January 1st it became law. If you don't bring your own reusable bags the stores will charge you for bags (which are sometimes reusable, but not as nice as the cloth ones). For some reason I had a huge pile of the reusable ones already that I used a good deal of the time already, so the switch wasn't very difficult.

I think they're easier to carry all around, and they are definitely stronger. But I find a lot of baggers seem to think they need to stuff them as full as possible, and pack them like a puzzle. I've got fifteen of them, they don't need to make the groceries fit in four. lol

Oh, that's what I want them to do! Here I seem to have to repack them cause they don't use the full amount of space and I want to fit into as few bags as possible for easier carrying. Now that I moved in w/my bf it's not as bad but I used to be on a bus and/or have to carry the bags into my gigantic, historical building where I lived on the 9th floor. No way I'm making 5 trips to get everything in.

They sure do!

But you know, they can perfect techniques with time; I think wider usage can catch on.

More folks are using them where I live than they did 10 years ago.
