Is this the sort of crap that normally passes for comedy in the U.S?

What a cunt. Sorry for the language but I know/knew Adam and his wife and they are lovely people. Adam was one of the nicest guys I've ever met and you could see the kind of guy he was when he talked about his wife (married last year) and baby girl. Knowing what Meg, his wife, is going through first hand and then hearing about this sick fuck makes me sick.

The Muriwai community is disgusted by a US TV show that pokes fun at New Zealand shark attack victim Adam Strange.

The show, called the Jeselnik Offensive which airs on the Comedy Central network, "gives thanks" for the death of Mr Strange with a "shark party" featuring scantily-clad women.

Host Anthony Jeselnik is given a lap-dance by a woman in a full shark costume before a photograph of Mr Strange is displayed on a screen behind him.

"But let's not forget the man that made this all possible," he said.

"Smile, you son of a bitch. And that brings this year's total of people killed by sharks - 1, sharks killed by people - 17 million."

Mr Strange was killed as he swam off Muriwai on Auckland's west coast a fortnight ago.

The chairman of the community's Surf Lifeguard Service, Tim Jago, said locals he had spoken to about the video were "disgusted".

"The fact that it's in incredibly poor taste isn't in question. I couldn't find where the humour was in it for a start, so it was pretty lame in that respect.

"I guess what's also disappointing and what shows how far off the mark these people are is the comments around shark finning and killing sharks, which is an issue that is really distressing to Adam's family because he was a conservationist and totally respectful of sharks.''

Mr Jago said trying to force humour out of somebody's tragedy was "pitiful at the best of times".

"I guess the thought that ran through my mind was if a New Zealand comedy act tried to make fun out of something like a high school shooting in America, they'd be on our backs and condemning us straight away."

* NZ Herald has chosen not to include the video because of offensive content.

You sure got us good.

I mean, that skit obviously represents the entire scope of American comedy in a nutshell.

Lighten up. Obviously I know that this does not not define what Americans in generally see as acceptable humor and I don't mean to offend but it's been a tough two weeks and this is my reaction to something that sickened and upset me.

Forget it.

Then perhaps a change in your thread title is in order?

Because (even though I didn't click on the link) based on your description...the answer is NO, that's not the sort of crap that normally passes for comedy in the US.

Jeselnik is not even remotely funny and never has been. I remember seeing a routine of his once and there wasn't a single thing in it that I found even a little witty let alone funny. The guy just plain sucks.

Why not just blast the host (who ever the hell he is) instead of a whole country.

I appologise for appearing to tar you all with the same brush. That wasn't right. It was a knee jerk reaction to something that upset me. I won't change the thread title as that would make the responses nonsensical.

However rather than getting all Indignant about my apparent faux pas perhaps a little more understanding about where my Initial reaction came from. The thought of people, his audience, laughing at what just happened to my friend made the red mist come down. We're all human but I do acknowledge when I make a mistake.

That being said. He is still a cunt in my eyes and so is anyone who found this funny.
