Bobby Brown has been sentenced to 55 days in jail for a 2012 drunk driving case -- his second that year.

The 44-year-old "New Edition" singer had pleaded no contest to the charges. In October 2012, Brown was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, marking the second time he was detained for one in seven months, and also charged with driving on a suspended license.

On Tuesday, February 26, a Los Angeles judge sentenced him to 55 days in jail -- 20 for two counts of DUI and 35 for a probation violation -- and ordered him to report to a Los Angeles correctional facility on March 20, City attorney's spokesman Frank Mateljan said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com.

He was also given four more years of information probation and was ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol treatment program -- including three AA classes a week -- and pay $3,600 in fines. Brown has not commented.

Last year, he also pleaded no contest to a separate DUI charge in March 2012, weeks after his ex-wife Whitney Houston died, and a judge ordered him to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction, put him on probation and issued a fine. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license. It was not valid because he had failed to appear in court to contest a speeding ticket.

In August 2012, two months before his second DUI arrest, Brown entered a rehab center. His wife, Alicia Etheredge, said at the time: "Bobby's children and loved ones are very proud of him. We appreciate his fans prayers and well wishes. Bobby is mentally in a good place."

Brown has battled substance abuse for years and has a prior DUI conviction from 1996. He pleaded guilty to the charge six years later and was sentenced to eight days in jail.

In 2004, he was sentenced to 60 days behind bars for violating his probation, months after he was arrested and charged with battery following a domestic dispute with Houston. In 2008, he was sentenced to a year of community service after police found him in an SUV in possession of a small amount of cocaine

Poor Bobby he can't ever be spared. First they always blaming him for bringing down Whitney. Now this...disbelief

Oh yeah poor Bobby. It's the public's fault for Bobby getting behind the wheel while

intoxicated. rolleyes Dude doesn't realize how good he has it. He just came off a

successful tour with his band of brothers who has supported him through thick and

thin as well as NE fans and he continues to do shit like this.

Bob's been a heavy drinker since his New Edition days. I think alcohol could be tougher on him than drugs ever were.

This. nod

So ironic. Folks were banking on Bobby to just do bad all by himself after he and Whit divorced. But surprise, surprise, he had no troubles with the law and seemed to kick both drugs and alcohol successfully. Then Whit died and it's starting all over again (minus the drugs). I just hope the guy will be able to turn his life around and be able to get back on that sober train he was riding.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

His career is done. Voice hasn't been good since the 90's. He had a lot of talent back in the day. Hopefully he can get his life together.

He is a cautionary tale to what can happen when you're on the cusp of having everything and then losing everything. I think he's a grandfather now so he should wise up one of these days before we have another RIP sticky...
