The Ring

Its bout a tape whoeva watches it dies within 7 days (all seven and we'll watch the fall wink ) evil basically, a extermely disturbin thought provokin curse.

Good but very strange film, the whole plot of the film is on the origins of what u c on the tape. But i still found it confusin. What was the reason of the motive of the tape.
But its the scariest film since Blair With. Hehe is also avaible from kazza or any cinema, with 3 popcorn.

The Japanese version, to be honest, was rather ordinary...couldn't for the life of me figure out what the big deal was when I finally saw it...didn't even slightly scare me...

big grin It's one of the movies that either you are going to love or hate and I was in the HATE group. Truthfully I don't like many movies of the horror genre so...

You did NOT just say that!

The horror genre is my favorite. Once you learn how to dissect horror movies they become 10 times more interesting.

I sort of liked it. I thought the "Tape" footage was very
good and scary on it's own.

In fact that was one of the best things in the movie. The
sound that came with is was brutal too. Nice. Very Nice.
I could sit and watch 3 hours of that kind of film. That
would really get me to piss my pants.

And the colors in the actual movie and some of the scenes
and the way the light worked was really rather scary.

However, it all became -as so many movies- much less of a
scary thing when we got to see the special fx.

Those always ruin the thing for me. Without actually seeing
Samara climbing out of the screen it would have been far
more haunting.

Just that hand coming out of the well, that freaked me out.
The whole picture was just had a big; "oh here we go again
another lets-ruin-a-movie-with-the-last-scene-due-to-dull-
and-unreal-special-fx-"What-Lies-Beneath"-kinda-Style.

One thing I am not clear on yet is wether the person that
makes a copy of the tape has to actually make sure that
another person is going to watch it. iow, do they have to
"give" Samara another victim, which would mean in a way
that you would have to kill someone to get off the hook,
or is making the copy simply enough???

I just finished watching this about half an hour ago.

I prefer the suspenseful, freaky type horror movies over the lots of blood, guts & gore type, so I liked it.

The imagery was very surreal and nightmarish, the score was creepy, and I agree with IstenSzek about the taped footage being scary in and of itself. I also thought it was rather freaky how, right after the scene where the crowd is looking over the railing of the ferry into the water to see if they can see the escaped horse that had jumped off, there appears a reallyreallyreally fast split second image of red ring. It made me wonder how many actual subliminal images were in this film.

I want to see "Ringu" now.

First of all, I'm not sure you can truthfully call Ring a horror. The Japanese originals are spooky, but slow-paced and more psychological supernatural thriller than "horror".

Secondly, don't watch a movie like that "to be scared". There's enough scary shit going on in the world, and frankly I doubt any movie could really scare me. Watch it to enjoy a good movie.

And I've mentioned it before, but try to get hold of a copy of the Asian film 'The Eye'. A damn creepy film with an unbelievably spectacular ending.

The Japanese originals are indeed slow-paced...but one thing they also do which I tend not to like too much in movies is that the script has the actors basically explaining shit to the audience instead of having the audience discover things on their own, or discover things right along with the characters..ex: when the guy in "Ringu" tells the female reporter that they have to go back to the cabin because "that's where (the girl) is buried, that's where she is, we have to go find her"...at least in "The Ring" (U.S. version), when the reporter and the guy go back to the cabin, you're not really sure what they're supposed to go back there for because they theymselves don't know...

I also liked the "killer video" in "The Ring" better than the one in "Ringu"...it was longer, and eerier, and creepier, and the music along with it was pretty haunting...

No it's not a movie yet. Natsume was just responding to the fact that on a different thread I had said that I like the book.
