Wow I guess if you don't say United States when asked name a country that starts with the letter U then you are wrong.
You aren't wrong - just very, very stupid if you can't get even the most obvious one.
The Question was name a country thats starts with the letter U. If you answer Uganda you have answer the question correctly, plain and simple. Why are you to answer the most obivious one???

I didn't say people had to give the most obvious answer, did I? I'm talking about the people who couldn't give even a single answer. It (obviously) wasn't incorrect to say Ukraine or Uganda, but the kids who couldn't name any country with a name starting with "U" - to say nothing of the country they actually live in – are morons.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Was I talking about the kids who didn't answer the question?? No!!! Then again if you answer the question with United States then you don't get to be in the video.
Jay Leno use to do these types of quiz on his show as well... he still may being doing then, I'm not sure.
When Leno did these impromptu quizzes he'd ask college students and adults on the street, many of them couldn't answer basic questions about American civics either. It seems with every generation we become more oblivious about the country we live in and the world beyond it.
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” Issac Asimov

Honey, you said - and I quote - "If you answer Uganda you have answer the question correctly, plain and simple."
What I am saying is that nobody said those kids were wrong. Nobody. And there were kids who answered, "United States" in the video. Know how I know that? Because I saw them in the video!

Sweetie pie by putting them in the video sure does imply that. I'm sure there are kids who clearly don't know any countries that start with a U. However I'm sure there are kids who do know the answer but chose not to answer the question because they feel like a dork in front of their friends. I remember when I got to junior high I would raise my hand when the teacher asked a question. When I notice I was the only answering the questions I stopped.

Kids who play stupid to "impress" their friends are stupid for real.

They don't get my sympathy because they give in to peer pressure to act like they "don't know shit". That's the problem in my own community, but that's for another topic and another day.

I agree that's is a problem that really needs to be looked into.
Howard Stern did this one right before the election. Disturbing and hilarious.
I remember this. There was a similar video of someone interviewing people who were at the voting booths for Obama during his first election campaign and their responses to questions was just as troubling.
Can you name a country that starts with a letter U? - Europe!
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
I've never quite understood how knowing some trivia like what's the capital of a state means you're "unintelligent", "hopeless" or something along the lines. Knowing some of the biggest cities and so on should be enough, but what's the point of knowing what the "capital" of each and every state is? Seems fairly arbitrary to me.
When I was in grade school we obviously didn't have to memorize the same things as the kids in the States do, but it was the same shit about memorizing the names of rivers in Europe and so on. I suppose you have to teach the kids something in order to fill up the curriculum, but there are better options than that.
Sometimes I check out the world map in order to remind myself where some countries in Africa or Asia are just in case I don't end up insulting any foreign visitors to my work place by not knowing where those countries are. The truth is, after a while I am most likely going to forget about such things.
Well from where I come from, it was actually important to get all the capital of the states right or you'll get a big fat F on it. I made sure I was perfect in my knowledge of the capitals!

It was even more embarrassing when Jay asked teachers basic questions they couldn't answer...
