Moving Away From The United States :
I am considering it. Has anyone here moved away to another country, who was born/raised in the US? Can you tell me about it, and how difficult or easy was it? If you live outside the US, and never lived here...what is your opinion on living where you live? Would you recommend it?

BTW I'm from Ireland, and I'm currently living in Scotland. I'd recommend both places, they're great places to live in. Of course, I'd imagine it's a bit awkward for Americans to get work visas for some countries, I'm not sure what's involved there. Anyway I recommend Europe

I have heard great things about Europe...guess I might have to marry some European, eh?

I gave back my green card.
Not many seem to do that... It took me two hours to explain it to the official why on earth I wanna do that. Then I had to swear on the bible just like you see it on TV all the time. THAT was big fun. Then it took another two hours of heavy interviewing and paper filling. No big deal. .......................

Hey that's cool, good for you! There's been times when I was very tempted to move to places like Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg. I like the vibe in those countries a lot, the cities are very friendly and peaceful.

My friend did that too The people at the airport he dealt with were shocked at the prospect of someone voluntarily giving up their US citizenship! But of course, American's working abroad usually keep their citizenship right? And still pay taxes to Uncle Sam...

Moving away can be a wrong decision.
I have moved from Holland to France and what was I thinking? Think before making the jump, sweets. Silly. I'ld move to the US if given the chance...

The advantage of being an (former) american in Eindhoven, is that that terrible accent that they have there is not so obvious to you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Are you serious??? I could be wrong! But I've worked with Americans who had temporary work permits in Ireland, and they were still paying taxes to America. However I also know a guy who moved from the US to Italy and even changed his citizenship etc so I guess there's a few ways of doing it.
