Stand (2009)
A self-=reverential group valentine posing as a road trip "Get On The Bus"-esque documentary.
In spite of the . . . let's say . . . heightened sense of self-awareness and mutual admiration . . . of Tavis Smiley, Prof. Michael Eric Dyson and Dr. Cornel West, some poignant moments do arise, especially with Dick Gregory. I don't think Tavis Smiley is quite aware he was lecturing us on things we already knew.
One sequence says it all. In the initial scene, Dr. West is seen giving a speech about how today's black generation is one of "peacocks" with his companions West and Smiley looking on approvingly. The next, a newly elected President Obama speaks to a gathering about how some young black fathers act like boys, not men, withn Dyson calling it "counter-intellectual [expletive]" with no sense of irony.
Three smart, important men who can do so much better than congratulating themselves.

Saw this today based on your recommendation. I'm a very big action buff and this had a couple of decent scenes and one great one. The rest was bits and pieces of 'True Lies,' 'The Dark Knight,' and assorted comic based movie homages.
I was disappointed. If you're an action fan, no doubt you have better offerings at home. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

^ I do. The person I went to see this with was also disappointed. I enjoyed it. Matter of fact, just finished watching Rise of Cobra, I liked that one too. The story line and acting could be better, but I think I'm just really into the whole G.I. Joe thing now, even watched one of the animated movies the other day She Don't Speak..But She Remembers

The Comedy - 3/5
Too aimless & disjointed to deserve a really high rating, I'd say, but it was very good at making me feel uncomfortable. It reminded me of 'in the company of men' in some ways, though it's not as good as that film by some margin IMO

Memento 4/5 My son's been bugging me to see it and I finally did. Maybe because so many films have come out since then that play on the mind and truth but I found it pretty easy to follow and understand, even though I'm reading that a lot of people didn't.
My only question is why didn't Teddy just break into the trunk and take the money? It's not like Lenny would remember it was there in the first place. I'm guessing he didn't like to do his own dirty work. [Edited 4/18/13 11:55am]

Holy Motors - Iām parking my rating at 4. It was ever bit as bizarre as every reviewer said it was, but in a way I found incredibly satisfying rather than annoying or frustrating, & I loved every minute of it. No chance I could explain it, but I want to watch it again very soon (I might watch it tonight, in fact), and I can see it becoming a favourite.

The Sessions
6 out of 10
John Hawkes played a great role. I've always had a crush on Helen Hunt. It was nice to see her assets on display, even at this advanced age. Some of the angles from which she was shot made her appearance seem bizarre, almost alien-like. Creepy. Just look at me dead-on Helen.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
