Not only have I seen it all the way through, I saw it in a theater - during its first run.

Me too. I will never forget the scene where Miss Celie and Shug kissed. Everyone in the theatre were gasping and shouting, "NO! NO!" lol

I've had the book for so many years and it's one of my favourites. I'd even done a paper on it for my final report in senior year. I still haven't seen the movie, but almost went to go see the musical a few years ago.

As much as I watched this movie I can never make it to the end , because I end up falling asleep or doing something else . Has anybody ever watched it from beginning to end?

You're kidding right??

This is one of my favorite movies ever and one of my favorites books too. I've seen the movie several times and I've read the book 5-6 times. Both are awesome, but I do enjoy the book better.

Make an effort to watch the entire film sometime.

Same here. I almost know the dialog from beinning to end by heart. I remember seeing it in the theatre when it first came out. The lady sitting in front of me comepletely lost it when Mr. was dragging Celie's sister Nettie off the farm. That scene must have hit home for her because she was sobbing buckets, poor thing. touched

I had a copy of the book autographed (in purple in, no less) by Alice Walker, from my friend Donna Bernardo who used to be Quincey Jones' assistant. And also the purple vinyl soundtrack too! I ended up giving the book to my best friend and Makidada....

I have two problems with this movie

a) the fact that it's directed by Spielberg, damn I enjoy his adventure/sci-fi/action flicks, but I can't stand him when he tries to be all serious and relevant (other than the Schindler's List and Private Ryan), the results are always pompous, manipulative and self-important. I wish this movie could have been directed by Peter Weir or even Ridley Scott

b) it's a painful movie to watch for obvious reasons, and I had a hard time watching Danny Glover being the ultimate mysoginistic asshole sad

so yes, I also prefer the book

Next time I'll put a little Suge Avery pee in his water and see how he like that.

How did he die? On top of me.

What am I gonna do with her? Beat her.

You told Harpo to beat me!

You ain't fit to be nothing but Suge's maid. Maybe she can sweep out the caboose.

Everything you done did to me, already done to you.

Until you do right by me, everything you do gonna fail.

I'm poor, I'm black, and I may even be ugly. But I'm here.

These pictures don't look anything like me. Damn him!

See daddy, even sinners have soul.

All my life I had to fight I had to fight my daddy I had to fight my uncles I had to fighter my brother Girl a child aint safe in a family of men's I never thought I'd have to fight in my own house I loves Harpo God knows I do BUT I KILL HIM DEAD BEFORE I LET HIM BEAT ME! I have thrown my hands up like Whoopie and quoted the " everything you have done to me , I have already done to you"....that usually freaks folks out cuz my family is from New Orleans lol lol lol I LOVE THIS MOVIE IT NEVER GETS OLD!

Ok, here's another one of my favorite scenes from the movie when Mister was trying to break Shug's fever by rubbing on her arm:

Shug: Turn loose my g-damn arm! Is you crazy? I don't need no little boy who can't say no to his daddy hangin over me! What I needs me is a man! You hear me? A man!!!

Mister lights up his pipe.

Shug: And I don't wanna smell no g-damn, stankin' pipe, Albert! Tell that Thang to come up here and fix me somethin' to eat. lol

I've seen the content of the entire movie multiple times, but I honestly don't think I've ever watched it in one sitting either. confuse It's not that the film is boring at all. It's fantastic. But the pacing is odd, and somehow I always get distracted by something else.

WTF? I saw it 3-4 times in the theater and got it on blu-ray. It's packed from start to finish. And the end knocked out the entire theater back in the day. The end is the storngest part.

You don't get enough sleep?

Me too...it's a real classic. I've lost count of how many times I've seen the movie. I saw it at the theater, own it on vhs and dvd and still watch it on television. lol I cry every time too.

Loved the book also!

Once was enough for Precious. I saw the Colored Girls play and I'm not planning on seeing the movie.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

It's actually a really well made movie, and the acting is good.

THe fairy tell ending is terrible and over-the-top cheezy, but the movie is still good.

Read the book and loved it too.

I'm still sore even all these years later that movie was passed over for an Academy Award so many times it was beyond insulting.
