Walking Dead Fans-question about 2nd season finale

Ok, I watched the second season again and this is what I still don't get. When Carl shoots Shane and they cut to the zombies in the woods-the herd, I mean-they all snap to attention when they hear that shot. But what I don't get is this: that zombie that killed Dale and the zombies that were killed the day of Dale's funeral-were they part of that herd? Where did those zombies come from?

I mean, the herd just happened to be there when the shot was fired by coincedence? And I also never got how a herd never stumbled across the farm till now. I mean, I know there was barn full of zombies, but it still seems like the farm got off easy in terms of zombie attacks.

And another thing-that attack during the first season, when Carol's abusive husband and Andrea's sister were killed-they never really said why the zombies came across their camp when they had been there peacefully for months. Was it cause they smelled that fish they had cooked?

I remember something in season 2 where a helicoptor flew over and it captured the attention of a lot of zombies over a large area, so I think a lot of them were already wandering in that direction from the surrounding cities.

That was definitely why the herd was moving in the direction they were heading.

I think the zombie that killed Dale was a straggler. When he was shot the herd was attracted by the noise.

As for the attack on the camp in season 1, I think they were random, wandering zombies. I think the point of all that was that the group had gotten a little too comfortable. When Rick came to the group & emotions rose, it showed they had become complacent leaving them vulnerable to attack.
I'm firmly planted in denial

I got the sense that it was a flashback. The helecopter flew over the city (IIRR) and the herd started walking, and eventually got close enough to the farm to hear the gunshot. That could have taken a while for them to walk there, though.

What I don't get was, why was that farm so special? There must have been dozens of farms in the immediate area. Houses everywhere, too. Why did they all have a bug up their butts about the farm when they were camping outside of it anyway?!

I vaguely remember that.

Re the farm, I wonder about that as well. Too much open space. I want a map of all the places the group has been.

What I don't get is that TDog and Michonne both talked about wanting to get to the coast? Why-zombies don't get near water or something?

Michonne mentioned traveling to an island at one point. An island seems like the best place to be during a zombie apocalypse. Once you clear out any zombies on the island then you should have a nice little place. Your biggest threat would be other humans.

yes i own the DVD and at the end where u see the credits they get overran by zombies(when they get off the boat and try to enter the island) when u watch on the video camera POV(the guy who owned the yacht they are using forgot his name sorry) I agree with u on this i would not wanna go to a place like a island IF overran by zombies id rather find a secure place much like the prison in season 3 where they cant break down steel bars easily as they can a fence OUTSIDE the prison...in short id rather plant my doomed ass on Alcatraz where its secluded and surounded by water and pray for the best making sure i have a boat on hand to get to land in case i need to run for more supplies

lol! I am still tripping over that herd and the farm. That still weirds me how Herschel and co were so unscathed by zombies. And what is EVEN weirder is, it seems that Rick and Co were the first group to roll up on them, especially considering that group of guys that Rick ran into in town-the group they took that hostage from
