Anyone Ever Had Eye Surgery? Most of you are probably too young to have had this surgery, but I had a cataract on my right eye that my ophthalmologist allegedly removed and replaced with a new lens. I think he fucked up big time. My right eye is now WORSE than it was before the surgery! I had lost most of the peripheral vision in my right eye because of two ischemic strokes, but I could at least see clearly with the vision I had left in that eye.
Several people I talked to told me that the surgery would improved my vision by making images brighter and clearer. Just the opposite happened to me. Now I can hardly see out of that eye! Vision is blurry and cloudy, not at all what I was experiencing before the surgery. Right afterwards, in the recovery room, I woke up in terrible pain. My eye felt like it had been ripped from its socket. When the bandage was removed, my eye was blood red and burning. He had also left a stitch in my bottom eyelid that felt like it was stabbing my eyeball, but the doctor told me it would dissolve and not be a problem. It must have because I don't feel that stabbing pain anymore, but now I get headaches, and I never had headaches before. When I close my eyes, I swear it looks like a freakin Rorschach test is swimming across my eyeball. I can hardly read or type because of the blurriness. I have a followup with the doctor tomorrow, and if my vision does not improve by the end of this week, I'm going to another specialist for a second opinion. If it is found that my original doctor messed up, I am going to sue big time. It is now very difficult for me to drive without straining my eyes. I have to be very very careful because of my vision field defect, and now I know I cannot work with this affliction. I am just so despondent. Anyone every had eye surgery, and if so. what was the outccome?

Ex-Moderator | How long ago was your surgery? Perhaps this website will have helpful info?

My dad had the same surgery and it was WILDLY successful. He can see better than ever.
I don't remember how long it took for his vision to be normal, though. I know it can take some time, it's not immediate. |

Ex-Moderator | PS - Sorry you're going through this. It sounds awful. |

Thanks so much, Carrie. I was able to get through the text of the article by enlarging the font, but it was difficult.
The article was helpful and I hope it rings true for me eventually, but right now, I am most uncomfortable. I do have diabetes and HBP, so perhaps my surgery was more complicated. I do remember the doctor saying something about me being "a tough lady." I will ask him about that tomorrow. Did he mean there were complications or was he complementing my stamina?
Oh, to answer your question, I had the surgery done on last Wednesday, February 6. I did see my doctor the next day, and I see hiim again tomorrow, almost one week to the day.
Like your father, my brother had his eye done about a month ago, and he noticed remarkable improvement almost immediately, so I was eagerly awaiting my results. However, it seems like I might be mimicing my mother. I remember she had the surgery on her right eye and ended up losing all vision in that eye completely because she thought the surgeon had cut her optic nerve. It's stange though. When I cover my left eye and look with my right, some images appear focused but others appear fuzzy or blurry. NOTHING appears brighter; as a matter of fact, images appear more cloudy than before.

A week does seem like a long time, but then, maybe it's all relatively normal. Glad you have an appointment tomorrow to get some questions answered.
I really do hope it all turns out OK and is just taking a bit longer to heal. |

Oh man...that sounds bad.

Thanks, Jedi. I had my followup today and was reassured that I am healing slowly but surely. I am feeling much better, and my vision has improved dramatically since yesterday. I guess I heal slower than most.
My doctor explained the "tough lady" statement when I asked what he meant. He told me I tried to get up off the operating table in the middle of the procedure! I told him I had no memory of doing that, and he explained that I wouldn't, but it is not uncommon for some people to react under anesthesia. I swear, leave it to me to do something completely out of character. I do remember getting crotchety in the recovery room because the attendants were ignoring my pleadings for water. My mouth was so dry it felt like sandpaper; I couldn't get my salivary glands to work. I remember this one nurse assistant told me to "just calm down and be quiet." I told her where she could go in a hand basket. Don't mess with me. I can be an evil bitch when provoked.

That's some story!
Glad to hear that you're on the mend though. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

My mom got cataract surgery and can see better afterward. I hear that's true for most. You'll be fine - I'm glad it's getting better.
