Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, Internet Explorer, or other browsers? (2013 edition)

We had previous threads about web browsers, mostly about Firefox VS. Chrome. But we have yet to discuss browsers in 2013.

In other words: FIRST!!!!!! mr.green

In a couple of months, I've finally gotten the hang of the workflow of Chrome/Chromium. I've finally found a few add-ons/extensions that I actually need. But I still have Firefox as my back up browser because Chrome/Chromium is still "too sensitive" in some website and ever some threads in the org that has too many flash players AND too many special effects involved.

February 2013 marks the first time that I rank Chrome/Chromium slightly higher that Firefox due to better web surfing flexibility. But I still find Firefox more stable when dealing with very high graphical web sites.

What's your current take on all of the web browsers? What is the best for you on your desktop, laptop, tablet, and/or smartphone? smile

I let go of it at work b/c it kept crashing.

That's when I discovered Firefox.

1. Chrome

2. Opera

3. Safari

I still have issues on how Google collects data on its users, so I use Chrome for somethings but most of the time use Opera and Safari. I've never liked Fire-Fox, never. I don't know what I.E. is. wink lol

Chromium is an open-sourced browser that Google's Chrome is based on. Unlike Chrome, Chromium does not share data with Google. It's too bad that Chromium are only available for Linux distros.

In Chrome, you can however go to settings and use the option of not sending any data to Google at all. The only drawback to that is you will not get any support from Google if you have problems with Chrome on your hard drive.

My main thing with why I quit IE was because of crashing and other issues that I always had with it. It also seems real virus prone compared to Firefox.

That's pretty much why I can't use it regularly. It's good if you wanna surf online but it's really bad because you don't know how Chrome will fuck up your hard drive by eating up space on your computer.

I have issues with my privacy settings on Chrome going/popping off.. so I stopped using Chrome for a lot of my activity on-line, unless its Youtube. I switched from Chromium to Opera 3 months ago because for whatever reason(s) it was unstable. I guess I could spent the time to figure it out but sometimes I need something to work now so, I switched to Opera and it works fine.

I don't like the feeling of being corralled, this bullshit you have to sign in to access an Internet browser and have an email address by them... this annoys me to no end. If it wasn't for YouTube I would've kicked Google/Chrome to the curb a long time ago.

I used Chrome, stopped using IE in March last year as it was always crashing and used up 1.05MB of my 1.74RAM, Google Chrome only used 740MB.

I find that video heavy threads on the org will crash something called "Shockwave Flash", and often I get the crash icon for Chrome. But my computer is very old (2008 and a budget ghetto model).

Our broadband is very slow here and there are limited servers.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I like the simplicity of chrome's layout, and I use that at home with my PC. Firefox seems to have less compatability issues on my Mac at work. Occasionally Safari is needed for certain applications with Mac.

Generally I have not noticed a huge number of differences in terms of bugs or quality, but Internet Explorer is super cluttered and I never use it anymore.

I kept reading that the reason for Firefox's issues with compatibility on its browsers is because of the many additions that would clutter browsing experience. I think what's a plus for them is also a minus for them but it is what it is and I still have a soft spot for Firefox that I wouldn't have for Internet Explorer.

Chrome all the way. The only thing i don't like about Chrome is I've been getting a LOT of Adobe Flash crashes lately. Maybe its an Adobe thing and not a Chrome thing? Anyway, the only time i use IE is when i need to get on the net to download Chrome (after a OS reinstall). Once i do that i disable IE in Windows. Actually just yesterday i reinstalled Windows 7 and Chrome on both of my cheapo computers. I caught a virus from a flash drive on one computer so i decided to start fresh on both computers.

Mozilla and Safari are pretty good but they seem to run slow on my computers. Never tried Opera.

unless I'm on my phone, which is the internet explorer used in windows phone 7.5.

There are a few Firefox style and theme editors out there that can allow you bigger buttons, custom buttons, etc. I use Stylish for a few websites. Social Fixer for Facebook.

Firefox also has browsers within its own browser. Like if you don't like the normal Firefox, you can get Nightly or something like that.

I don't know... I'm still wondering when Opera is gonna leave the memory leaking of their 12 versions and returned to a pre-12 version of Opera 13 where shit don't automatically crash due to Flash.

Firefox has had its share of shitty releases

Chrome has had its share of shitty releases

Opera has had its share of shitty releases

Safari is just shitty

IE isn't much better than Safari

Essentially, Third-Party Apps are superior to native clients. But they are not without their drawbacks. And Java/JavaScript/XML/HTML/etc. are just as (if not more) vulnerable as ocx/ActiveX programs to coder error or malware exploits.

I like how Microsoft has committed to scheduled O/S upgrades and Service Packs. The resources they put into Automatic Updates is great too. It's what you expect of a paid organization. And their Office Products are really tough to beat. That's not even talking about their awesome Server products.

That said, I cannot leave a newly installed XP/Vista/Win7/Win8 machine at home for 1 day without the wife or kids putting some sort of malware or toolbar etc. on it. They all Linux now. And they use Google Apps to store their docs. That way I can just throw on the latest version of Mint or MEPIS, or CentOS, or RedHat, or... (depending on what I'm screwing with at that time). As long as they can log on, get Firefox running, and use Clementine and VLC for audio/video, they're happy.
