Any lawyers here?

Hi,

I have a query. If I wanted to rent a flat, and the landlord said - "You can't have girls in here, (or loud music, or alcohol)" , my question is - does he have the right to say this because it's his flat? Surely as long as I'm not doing anything illegal , he can't actually *refuse* me the flat? He may have whatever beliefs *himself*, but he can't impose those on ME....?

Any lawyers here wanna weigh in?

What country are you in... flat sounds British.

also do a cost/benefit analysis... is it REALLY (and I mean REALLY!!) worth the time and effort to go after this chowderhead?

Let's say you got the place... those would be great moving in terms, "Hi I just sued my way in to be your neighbor..."

I'd give this some serious thought before going up against a dickhead... hmmm

nod

That's the course I would go, "uptight" landlords in the long run are a pain in the neck.

I'm in India, and a different place may not be the solution - ALL landlords round here will probably be some variant of this.

I see. You need to find out what are the laws pertaining to leases and rental agreements in India; the respective rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords.

If you live within his home then you have to come to some agreement to do with "rules".

Do you have some sort of landlord and tenant office that can clarify what your rights are? Laws are different in every country. Check with some one from your country that knows your laws and legislation.

Sounds like some deep cultural issues there dude.

When in Rome...do like the Romans do.

Play the game until you can move into a more open section of whatever city you're in.

if you're renting his flat and you sign a lease or some type of agreement stating you won't have Chicks, Loud music or alcohol then legally you have to follow the contract.

If none of that is in a written agreement then you can invite Girls and drink and do whatever because how is he gonna know?

So he's fine with you having Guys over but no Girls? He's a Grown Man and he knows better than to tell another Adult Male that women arent allowed...

If you are renting part of his Flat and he's living in another part of the Flat then you gotta follow his Rules.
