I'm not a particular fan of the Superman franchise, but that's a darned good trailer.

I don't see much difference with Superman returns...again, there gonna start how Superman grew up. We've seen that twice already. Thought we were gonna get a nasty Superman.

Well, there is already a Superman 1 movie from '78 which starts with Superman growing up.

Or didn't they show how he grew up in Superman returns (maybe my mistake, I really forgot what that movie was about lol )

I think people who are interested in this movie really know how it all started.

yeah but there may be something in his origin that is new. I know if I was part of the team I would have had a shocking new idea in his origin

*i guess you could add smallville as the 2nd but I am not sure that should be counted.

in the case of this movie we are going to see things with his origin that we have never seen before.

If i was making the movie: his departure from Krypton would have caused the destruction of Krypton. That would open an entirely new aspect to his character. But I was not hired... razz

sounds good....I can already see the guilt in him, but he was only a baby back than, why would his departure make such a big impact?

i think anyone would feel guilt if their life was the cause of great suffering. but that is just a though i had years ago that would be a cool twist on his origin.

but in this trailer it looks like he survives a horrible event (a fishing boat being blown up??)

he may also face guilt when he dosne't use his powers to save their lives.

The colors of his costume are way too dark/grim/washed out/edgy.

The last thing Superman is any of those. Superman doesnt need to follow the dark fad, hes anything but that.

I also didnt like that Jonathan Kent insinuated he should let the kids die, other than that looking foward to it.

I think that is going to factor into later on when the bad thing happens out at sea (i suspect he will allow his crew mates die in an accident on a fishing boat that will leave him feeling guilty)

it seems that at some point after the bus, he may allow something else bad to happen that will cause him to set off on his own (after finding out some info on his arrival)... (similar elements are in the Donner films).

During this time he will be following the hero myth standard of a time in which the hero tries to escape his destiny (seen in Star Wars when Luke for once in his life refuses to go with Ben... Ben Accepts that until fate steps in.) I think he will have a few chances to help people and he will struggle with it. I suspect he will at times help in a way that will not be noticed (using heat vision to save Lois in II (blowing on her to slow her fall in one of the deleted parts). But he will be reluctant to go full out. AND when it really matters, when he could easily save people, he will let them die.

it also looks like we will get some of the discovering of powers stuff too. (Which I always love)

I agree 100% about the costume, but the "dark and tortured" portrayal is what I'm really looking forward to. We've always seen a "la-di-da" Clark as a youth, but wouldnt it scare the shit out of all of us if at the age of six we could hear bombs dropping on the other side of the globe and have no idea how to turn our ears off? Much more realistic than what we've seen of Clark's youth so far.

That said, they better have him grow up into the confident, save the world hero we all know and love. He's always shown a little angst, but I have no interest in seeing "Bruce Wayne" as Superman. disbelief

Shut up you idiot. You want a happy cartoony or a movie with real grit and somewhat real human emotional conflict? They should not make movies for people liken you. I bet you thought Batman and Ronin was just dandy with Batgirl neing from Englandd with no accent and Arnolds one liners and of ofcourse all the cod pieces who can forget the cod pieces.

It makes sense to me. I think it will play an important role in Jon's own death, an incident that Clark could have actually prevented (think Rocky iV and Apollo's death when Rocky didn't stop the fight because of a promise.)

So i guess I should post this here:

Spoilers and speculation based on trailer and other officially released information.

.

.

So here is what i gathered: As a boy he saves the kids on the bus and wonders if he should have just let them die. Later he is on a boat and apparently something bad happens. And the voice over about the decisions we make... speak of him being at odds with who and what he is and his place on Earth.

So did he let the bad thing happen? Did he let the fishers die?

Also at some point he get arrested. Does he join for some time Zod? Will we see a side of him that is new(ish)? (he was kind of a jerk in III).

I am thinking that he will feel that his is not part of this world and will join Zod and will do some bad stuff only to change his mind.

Why do they always use the same villains for Superman? It's either Luthor or General Zod - YAWN. Why not Doomsday, Braniac, Darkseid, Parasite or Mongol?

Cost? Relatability? Save the Doomsdays/Darkseids for sequels.

It's been over thirty years since Zod appeared on the big screen. The time is right, besides you've got to have relatable characters, an equal/opposite for Supes to fight. The general public who don't follw comics would be lost when it comes to the likes of Metallo, Parasite and Mongol.

That's part of the problem with Superman. His rogues gallery is pretty shit. Everyone knows Batmans enemies.

Still looking forward to this movie though. Can't wait.
