I think it's because for a long time, black folk were not exposed to these types of stunts, and in general, we are a scary, spooky (um, no pun intended ) bunch.

Ever notice in horror films how it's always white folks who go looking for the monster or get fucked up by the monster? See, black folk wouldn't even stick around to find out. First hint of danger, and we HAT! First thing out of Joe Joe's mouth is, "Man, sheeeit! LATER!"
