Muhammad Ali Is Reportedly Very Sick, Says Brother

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali is so ill he could die within days, his brother has warned.

Rahman Ali said the former world heavyweight champion cannot speak and no longer recognises him.

He told The Sun: "My brother can't speak, he doesn't recognise me. He's in a bad way. He's very sick.

"It could be months, it could be days. I don't know if he'll last the summer. He's in God's hands. We hope he gently passes away.

"He told me before he got really bad that he's in no pain. He grabbed my arm and whispered

'Rah, I've achieved everything I've ever wanted to accomplish. Don't cry for me, I'm in no pain'.

"It's best he goes now. The longer he goes on, so does his suffering and misery."

Ali won gold at the 1960 Olympics and after turning professional went on to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.

The 71-year-old had several iconic fights during his career,

including 1974's 'Rumble in the Jungle' with George Foreman and the 'Thrilla in Manila' against Joe Frazier the following year.

Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1984 but remained active for many years and memorably lit the Olympic flame in Atlanta in 1996.

Hang in there champ

Wow.

I remember reading in 2011 that Ali had to be rushed into the hospital because he had fell in his home and he was in his car slumped over.

I still have that image of Ali wobbling at Joe Frazier's funeral. sad

And also can't forget he looked barely there at the Marlins game.

You never want your last memories of a legend to be shown like that. He's going out like Joe Louis. neutral

I have some personal knowledge of late-stage Parkinson's disease. My great grandmother developed Parkinson's in the late 1980's, and she suffered a couple of strokes from it. Nevertheless, she survived those strokes but became progessively worse as time went on. In the last three years of her life she was basically receiving home respite care and had to be attended to nearly 24 hours a day since she couldn't even speak or walk and lost her motor functions. She died in January 1997, almost ten years after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

sad And Ali has had it for 29 years almost... least Parkinsonism (which was caused by boxing hits) at first and then advanced Parkinson's disease.

Apparently Ali responded by posing in a Baltimore jersey to refute his brother's claims.
