Marriage Expert PAT ROBERTSON Blames Ugly Women for Unhappy Marriages

Got marriage problems? It may be due to your "awful-looking" wife, according to Pat Robertson.

The Christian televangelist is taking heat over comments he recently made on his "700 Club" show in response to a 17-year-old who wrote to "Maxim" magazine about how his father never pays attention to his mother, Slate reported.

"I'm 17 years old and I’ve noticed that there has been a change in my father’s behavior," he wrote. "He spends too much time at the computer playing a war game. I’ve noticed how alone my mom feels. I just want my father to spend more time with my mom. What should I do? How can I talk to my father? I feel shame for him. Please help."

Robertson initially suggests the boy try to get his parents out of the house on some kind of romantic getaway.

Then it gets weird.

Robertson continues, "You know, it may be your mom isn’t as sweet as you think she is; she may be kind of hard-nosed. And so, you say, it’s my father, he’s not paying attention to mom, but you know mom ..." he trails off, chuckling.

He then goes on to say "awful-looking women" can be blamed for other marital problems, The Huffington Post reported.

"A woman came to a preacher that I know, and she was awful looking. I mean, her hair was all torn up and she was overweight and looked terrible, clothes bad and everything," Robertson said. "And she said, 'Oh, Reverend, what can I do? My husband has started to drink.' And the preacher looked at her and said, 'Madam, if I was married to you I'd start to drink too.'"

Robertson has been married to his wife, Adelia, since 1954.

Well, obviously he's wrong to put it all on the wife. But by the same token, I think people who think there aren't folks who start to take their relationships for granted - maybe letting themselves go just a tad in the process - are delusional.

Keeping a relationship humming takes work - and keeping up your appearance should be part of that. shrug

Agreed. But, we know there is a different standard for men than there is for women. Men who cheat on their wives because the wife "let themselves go" are often patted on the back and supported with people saying, "I don't blame you". On the other hand, a wife who cheats on her husband because he gained 200 lbs, let his hair fall out and let his teeth rot, is more likely to made to feel guilty that she would dare turn her back on her husband like that and would probably even be labeled a whore.

Yes that's true, but my impression is that usually it's the women who pay more attention to keep up their appearance than their men do.

Interesting.

I always thought that the women who stray are often looked at with more understanding and compassion than the dirty dog men that cheat on their poor wives.

Thank you. Women want something to look at too, I can't tell how many women I know complain about something a simple as personal hygiene. There's a propensity for women to be responsible for everybody's happiness and well being. What Mr. Robertson failed to mention most divorces are initiated by women; he should ask these women why they choose to skip.

I was watching some talk show a few years back, where the women were blamed for the men cheating because the women had "let them selves go." I just remember one woman saying that she had had small kids and was super busy with them, working, taking care of the house, stuff like that, and really was neglecting her husband. He had an affair with someone from work because she was showing him attention and his wife wasn't.

The wife forgave him, and realized that it was her fault. Now she doesn't even come downstairs in the morning till she has her hair and makeup done and perfume on. He's so much more happier now. I was disgusted and outraged! Frickin' spoiled baby!

Sure, I think you should look presentable when appropriate, but come on! That's no reason to cheat on your spouse. Frankly, and this is my opinion, when you've been married a long time, you really don't even notice when your spouse is looking extra good. At least I don't. They are who they are. My husband can be looking smooth or be wearing the clothes he slept in at 2 in the afternoon, and I still love him and am attracted to him.

I've watched the 700 Club for years, but Pat needs to retire.

Yes, I agree that in many instances that may be the case. But, overall, the wife is expected to do whatever needs to be done to keep the marriage from falling apart (especially if there are children involved). Even if it means "overlooking" her husband's indiscretions. That kind of pressure doesn't seem to be put on the husband quite as much.

Let's be honest here. Women are masters when it comes to luring men. We pretty ourselves up in as many ways we can, we fake interests to have shit in common with the man of our liking, we use sex as a way to get and secure a man.

And as soon as we have our man on lock down, all the things that we did to attract him no longer is important and we no longer feel the need to keep up the illusion.

Now of course, not all women are like that...but sure seems like a lot of them are.

Dudes on the other hand, well, what you see is often what you get and sure, we all get older and change physically but I don't think it can be compared to how women tend to change once they get married.

I've observed that men think that shit is cute until women leave. As my father-in-law said at out wedding reception. Men are a little different than women, we don't have the extended support system like they do all we have are our families; if we lose that we have nothing. I have men friends and family members who've learned that the hard way. neutral Be very careful how you treat people, you now where you've been but you don't know where you are going.

let's put this in perspective by considering the source and take a look at other quotes from the genius that is pat robertson, and with respect to how he regards women, 'specially #7 nod lol

10. "Lord, give us righteous judges who will not try to legislate and dominate this society. Take control, Lord! We ask for additional vacancies on the court." –Pat Robertson

9. "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." –Pat Robertson

8. "I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate -- this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." –Pat Robertson, on "gay days" at Disneyworld

7. "(T)he feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." –Pat Robertson

6. "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period." –Pat Robertson

5. "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there." --Pat Robertson, after the city of Dover, Pennsylvania voted to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial

4. "God considers this land to be his. You read the Bible and he says 'This is my land,' and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No, this is mine.' ... He was dividing God's land. And I would say, 'Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations, or the United States of America.' God says, 'This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.'" --Pat Robertson, on why Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a massive stroke

3. "Maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up" –Pat Robertson, on nuking the State Department

2. "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with." –Pat Robertson, calling for the assassination of Venezuel...ugo Chavez

1. "It may be a blessing in disguise. ... Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. Haitians were originally under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal. Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other." –Pat Robertson, on the earthquake in Haiti that destroyed the capital and killed tens of thousands of people, Jan. 13, 2010

Not only do men get sympathy from other men for cheating on their wives (she must have done or said something to deserve it), most of the time, they get a pat on the back and a "that a boy!", too! biggrin And lord knows we always cover for each other. I think it's disgusting but that's just the way most men are. Cheating and adultery is a very accepted (and expected) practice amongst most men. And if a man dare judges another man for committting the act, he will be looked upon as some whacked-out alien from outer space.wacky

The Captain is not a one woman man so I probably won't ever get married. I couldn't imagine bringing so much joy to a woman and then taking it away. It's just cruel, just plain cruel.

As far as ugly woman there is no such thing. If a guy has got a strong enough imagination, than every woman can look like Cindy Crawford circa 1987. At least for a couple of minutes.

I watched some TV show on private detectives that handled adultery cases in the UK. Women hired them because they suspected their husbands were cheating and wanted evidence for the divorce. The detectives had handled hundreds of cases and told that in all of the cases the wife had cut her hair short the new woman had long hair.
