Bear Fans: Any thoughts on todays activity?

I'm loving the new coaches just hire by the Bears.

How come Lovie Smith is getting so much interest? (sarcasm)

Lovie's not that bad. He does have a winning record and a Super Bowl appearance on his resume.

But I guess the new GM wanted his own guy, a coach who'll concentrate more on offense. Lovie's primarily a defensive coach.

There are about 50 coaches who have gotten to a Super Bowl, about half of them have won at least once, and a baker's dozen who hold 2/3 of the Lombardis.

Lovie is one of the 50. Granted, so is Barry Switzer but I think Lovie's a good coach nonetheless. He's had terrible FO support and managed to have a few winning seasons.

He's not an elite coach but a good one with significant flaws who got what he could out of his personnel.

I watch every single play of the Bears. In games that required actual action by the head coach, this genius stood there and did nothing. His career record aginst winning team is 32%. Not 2 mention 3 playoff victories in 9 seasons. This fool went 2 the GM last year before the draft and told him that the OL would be ok and focus on defense in the offseason and draft. he played favorites and starters NEVER had 2 work 2 keep their jobs. Don't believe me? Read this:

Lovie has no game plan at all 2 win a SB. All talk, no action.

There's no dispute he's no genius and has serious flaws, just as I said. And I'll add one more: his staff did not adjust to what offensive talent they had; Martz nearly got Cutler killed last year.

And as you know, the Bears Roster has been the equivalent of a man who dresses for work in the dark. always mixing and matching, elite talent on one unit, uncut cabbage on another . . . and the whole thing often fell apart. Their "top WR" for years was a converted defensive back. That's gone on far longer than one season.

For all his flaws, he got the Bears to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman. Not many coaches could do that.

He's not Halas, or Ditka for that matter. But historically, the Bears have done (much) worse. He had to go, but they should have had a better plan in place.

On the bright side, this will be a good draft for offensive linemen.

BTW, CHI should a top-10 job at least, but the FO had to go to Canada to get Mark Trestman, so a lot of top candidates passed. The problems go beyond coaching.

We'll see . . . Trestman is good with QBs.

Any news on his staff?

They have hired all of the important positions except Defensive Coordinator.

Some good pickups.
