My Beautiful Dog has Cruciate Disease. My beautiful dog, Rufus, has been diagnosed with cruciate disease. It's where trauma has occured to the hind knee ligaments and results in lameness.
He's not even two yet, is a springer spaniel and running about at a hundred miles an hour chasing things is his most favourite thing in the world. Surgery for both knees is about £6000, a figure I really can't afford. So it looks like he's bound to his lead for a long long time, will not be able to live his life to the full and will eventually get arthiritis.
He's the only creature to have always been pleased to see me, no matter the time or day, regardless of his health or temperament. Nothing else in life has ever given me that.

Don't despair!
We have a full-blooded Cocker Spaniel, and she's blown a tendon or something in her legs more than once chasing squirrels. The vet said knee operations were needed but we chose to let her rest.
After a couple weeks or so, she was as good as new! So whatever she had pulled was not something that needed surgery to correct. Just rest, that's all.
I hope that's what happens for your Spaniel!

It saddens me to hear of your worries for Rufus. Our pets become a part of our family and we want to give them so much, but often treatment for them is just too expensive. Rufus is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have him. With your love & care he will have a wonderful life. I'm firmly planted in denial

awww I am sorry to hear that. My boy ( german shepherd) tore his ACL a few years back, they treated him with a steroid shot and gulcosamine pills. He also gets rimadyl for when the pain gets bad and he is really suffering. I couldn't afford the 5K surgery either and like rodeo said rest and meds and he's fine. Doesn't run much but can walk for miles with out limping when its nice out.
don't despair. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou
