Not asking for how much you make, just want to see if anyone here in the USA felt the tax "increase" resulting from the expired Bush tax cuts?

Last week my paycheck was about $40.00 smaller.

But, the company gave out raises, and it's back to what it was before.

What about you question

[Edited 1/10/13 8:07am]

My check was $66 less (some of that being my new LTD and STD benefits that just kicked in) and my wife's was around $50 less. Like vainandy said we need every penny, but not because we can't necessarlity afford not to have it. We are working on paying off debts, buying a newer home in the next year or so, and funding my education -- and soon her education--- out of pocket. So that $2,784 a year we will miss is almost exactly what my tuition is a semester. Hopefully we will get some of it back on our 2014 returns....we'll see.

when i went to go a screen cap of my pay stub I saw that SS is not listed at all on it. So I could take a photo of my w2 (an old one or the new one when it gets here in a few days) with some proof it was taken by me but but how could i do it as to not show my income? But I assure you all my job is exempt from Social Security Tax. I pay into a alternative retirement plan. But unlike SS that money is mine and it is an asset if i die before I can collect.

With your track record, you assurances have no value. Sadly.

It's too soon for me to tell. I just started a new job last week and will be paid semi-monthly. At my previous job we were paid once a month. In addition, I got a salary increase at the new job, but I will have to come out of pocket for other expenses that my previous employer covered. I just got my first paycheck for the new job -- it was for 7 days and it was more than I thought it would be, but I also didn't have them send anything to my savings account. Once I have a full month to go on, I'll be able to tell if there's a difference or if the salary increase will negate it.

Even if I end up netting the same amount as my old job (because of the tax and other things I now have to pay for) it's fine. This job is for an organization that is a bigger deal, and I think has more long-term potential. Plus, I worked really hard last year to pay off one of my grad school loans so I also have the money I paid every month for that to put to my 403b if I want.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

my track record? LOL well i do not lie. just because some choose not to believe others without some proof that is their issue not mine. Like when (I think YOU) accused me of lying about having been in the army I posted a photo of some of my papers... same here I do not pay social security tax, my job is exempt. It is amusing to me that people want to attack me just because they in their limited knowledge never heard of a job that was exempt.

Now some troll may come in and list times when things i said were not true: some I admitted to being wtong others I do not agree and sometimes I contend that what I said was true enough (that what was said was a simplification but over all accurate). Just becasue you can find someone else that says what I said is not correct is NOT proof.

Dude, you lie all the time and even when called on it, you won't admit it. You never offer proof or sources on the things you post and you argue for the sake of arguing when you don't even believe the shit you argue for. You have zero credibility and even though I know there are exempt people from researching it myself, I don't believe you are. You are an Internet troll and it boggles the mind that you haven't been rebanned yet.

post one LIE I told.

I do sometimes offer proof, so are you lying now?

Although I do sometimes ask questions as a devil's advocate I do believe what I said I believe. Just because you do not agree with me doesn’t make it untrue much less a lie.

I am exempt from SS. so I so I do not care what you believe.

I haven't accused you of not being in the Army. I never saw that post either.

I am not attacking you and of course there are jobs that are exempt. Being aware of that, I've never cared whether you were lying about that or the Army.

I do care when you post your opinion as fact and ignore facts that are posted that show you are clearly wrong.

I have my own opinions. I don't need to post a different opinion to show you are wrong. I WILL post FACTS that show your opinions and/or beliefs are wrong and inaccurate. You may choose not to learn but I see no reason for you to make statements of belief and present them as fact and not challenge the factual basis for your beliefs. I expect others to do the same. If my beliefs are factually wrong, I expect others to pull my coattails and correct me. I am never to old to learn or be corrected.

I have never seen you admit to being wrong. You won't answer the question posed or simply try to change the subject. Generally you divert the topic or disappear to avoid facing your errors.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I recall maybe twice you posted facts related to one of your posts.

You famously said that you could not post because that would be plagarizing and/or illegal, although I posted why that would not be the case and you could.

what makes you a troll is the fact you are a troll, a previously banned user who also sought to do nothing but rile people up. Hell, you have even admitted as such on occasion.

yeah, never is pretty finite. That was hyperbole, but 99.999% of the time you don't.

You did. You said facts existed to support your position but you couldn't post it . . . . . Didn't link it either. Probably on one of the Trayvon Martin threads.

again you kind of make the point! You miss it or do not get it. As to taking a poll... why would anyone ever suggest a person's intelligence be measured by a poll?

The idea that you claim to be the smartest person in the room is not based on any objective measure of intelligence is it? Just the perception of intelligence. I responded in kind.

But , is there a test you have in mind.

oh i just checked my jan pay stub. my pay is the same. I was thinking that the SS alternative may have been reduced with SS but it was not. Now the people that want to say that is not fair, remember that I did not get a 2 year break.

I also did filled out a best guess for my income tax and again i pay no taxes after credits.

When the payroll tax "holiday" went into effect, I just increased my 401K contribution by 2%. So I never had that money in my pocket, to begin with. I didn't expect the holiday to be permanent, so I figured I'd trade retirement for retirement. shrug

I got a raise last year, so even with the 2% in payroll tax taken back out, my paycheck is still a little to the good - even with the higher 401K contribution.

Plus, I'm contributing to my flexible medical account again this year. (In an epic screw-up, I somehow managed not to do that last year - which was terrible.) So I figure I'll save way more than 2% on my medications and other out-of-pocket medical expenses this year.

Everything's fine.

[Edited 1/10/13 9:45am]

this is sort of where i am. i didn't increase the 401(k) contribution, but i was doing contributions to my HSA up through july, and flex account and LTD all year.

since my employer is going to kick in for the HSA to the legal max this year, and i will have a slightly larger dental bill this year, i upped my flex and 401(k) contributions. i'm waiting to see on tuesday how it all shakes out.

i am very happy that even if my paycheck is $40-$50 less, it's not going to break me. i'll just pull back on my automatic savings deduction. a lot of people don't have the money to pull back, you know? i know how blessed and lucky i am.

okay, finally got paid. and yes, the paycheck is quite lower than it was, close to $80. i think it's a combination of the higher 401(k) contribution and reinstitution of the full payroll tax.

i spoke to my friend and she was shocked to see that her paycheck got smaller. like vainandy, she didn't realize that we had been receiving a "break" through the lower payroll tax. i asked her didn't she realize that her check had gotten larger in the last year. she said no. i think what happened is that while the "break" resulted in a marginal salary increase, some people live so close to the edge that that little amount of breathing room did nothing to alleviate their debts or provide much more beyond their daily needs. now that the tax break is going away, they are truly going to feel it. neutral

What's this with the taxes? I thought it was for people that make over $200,000 or $250,000 a year.

[Edited 1/10/13 14:50pm]

over the past year or so, everyone has been getting an extra 2% in their checks because they reduced the payroll tax. it was meant to stimulate the economy (i'm not sure that it did). it had to end sometime b/c that tax helps support the soc sec system, and we certainly don't want less money going there with the next wave of baby boomers due to tap into it over the next decade.

i hope that it will only be a small drop in the bucket for you.
