Been vaccinated 3 times and each time I was sick for WEEKS after. Knock down, fevered up, so weak I can't move and coughing til I bruise a lung sick. Its horrible. I also get massive hair loss 3 months after from the high fevers.
I just stopped being vaccinated... my kids fair way better than me with the shots. I haven't given them a flu shot this year. But, the outbreak is so bad I am taking advantage of the freebies this week and taking them in. There is now an offical health emergency because of the outbreak of flu in my city. I will not get mine, I'd rather take my chances. |

Never had the flu, have never had a flu shot. They offered them free at my job, and now it seems that a few of the people who actually got the shot, got the flu. In fact just from casual observation, over the years that always seems to be the case after working in a few different locations. Plus I tend to have adverse affects from time to time from various meds and vaccines, so since it seems like a crap shoot anyway, why get a shot for something I don't seem to be prone to get at this point in my life, just because I'm told to.
You can't get the flu from the flu vaccine - except in rare cases with the nasal mist kind, which is made from a live virus. Flu shots do not use a live virus - so cannot cause the flu.
People who get the flu shortly after getting the vaccine were either exposed to the flu before they got the shot or in the time it takes for immunity to develop after you get the shot.
But they CAN get you sick as a dog... I get flu shots I GET SICK and stay sick for weeks.
It happened 3 times to me, may have not been the flu but I was never sick like that with a cold.
Keep that damn shot. |

It's not a matter of cost as it is free here (well, covered by medicare).
Neither my son or I have ever had a serious flu and it's not that I don't think we will ever get one, I just think it's better to fight it off on your own. I might think of the flu shot differently if we were in a high risk category for real complications, but we're both healthy.
You still would be "fight(ing) it off on your own" with the shot. No oddball drugs would be introduced to your system. The injection of the dead virus simply would kickstart the development of your own antibodies ahead of you contracting the live virus. Correlation is not causation.
ah but in this case it was. you had to have been there i guess.
moreover, the process whereby the vaccine is created, by combining known variations of the flu strains with each other, could give rise to more rapid mutations in the flu strains themselves, ultimately resulting in the assisted evolution of a truly killer strain.
so i am of the opinion now that from now on i'll just keep my own immune system and general overall health in tip top shape, while observing preventative hygiene measures (i.e., never lick you bare hand after opening the subway door, and etc.) so as to survive the next epidemic that way instead of relying on a flu shot
That can't happen with dead viruses. It's not combining them with each other either. The dead viruses are included in the same shot. Rather than 3-4 shots for different strains there are different strains of DEAD virus in each shot. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Call me naive and call me stupid or ignorant, but the flu can be risky or kill if your immunity is already very low and if there are underlying factors already, regardless of age, it doesn't just kill anyone, our bodies are equipped to fight viruses, it's when new strains like h1n1 came about it became scary and out of control, and the shot from back then didn't protect against it. These people are just trying to scare you. I've never had a flu shot and haven't been completely full blown sick in years, though when I was, it didn't feel fatal and I would fight it easily with a lot of rest.
Having said that, I was considering getting one since I'm hearing it's really bad and I felt sick for a day from lack of sleep, but perfectly fine the next day.

No thanks.
As already mentioned, it doesn't even cover the new strains that are constantly evolving, you can't keep up with that.
I'll just continue with the natural preventions that Nothinbutjoy mentioned. |

Here is an interesting article by talk show host and alternative medicine and nutrition expert Gary Null on the flu shot and it's effectiveness:
http://prn.fm/2013/01/08/...z2HZsfXRNn
It's kinda long, but it touches on several issues concerning this vaccine. I got the flu shot, several years ago and became very ill with the flu. It then dawned on me that, the shot does not PREVENT you from getting the flu. It just makes you better prepared, should you get it. Never again, will I get that shot. I have not had it since that one time, 4 years ago. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth" |

Yes it is a very good reason for us. And now that I have RA, there is no way I'd ever stop getting the vaccines.
I do want to mention though, that it does not bother me when people do not get the shot. It's their choice and I don't understand the hostility towards them. |

I don't mind peoplel who say they've had a bad reaction to it and don't want another one. I get that.
But to say, "I'm never getting one because I've never had the flu before" is kind of dumb.

I have no hostility toward anyone who doesn't get the shot, but we get immunized against other diseases also. Polio has only been eradicated because people were given shots or oral vaccine doses. In some places such as Pakistan where no one wants to get the immunization, it is still a health problem.
If no one gets the shots, then the entire population is much more susceptible to contracting it. Some people will die from, but like everything else, it's fine to roll the dice with the expectation that MY number won't come up. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Because the pool of those who do not becomes a reservoir for the virus to thrive and continue spreading. Healthy people may not become very sick but can still spread it to those who will succumb to it.

Measles, smallpox, diptheria and polio are also illnesses that are treated with vaccines. They've largely been eradicated world wide through the use of childhood immunization.
Not sure why those who consider a flu vaccination a problem ignore that they've been vaccinated against other illnesses that used to kill more people than the flu. Seems it's taken for granted. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Hey Suprman. Take a look at that link I posted earlier, on getting the flu shot and tell me what you think.....I think it's a page back. I personally, will not get the shot because to in my opinion, it really does not guarantee that you will not get the shot.
