I went through a long spell of freelancing & there was no work - I was PO', cooking all the time b/c it helped save money. Now that work is more steady & cash is more expendable, I've lost my friggin' mind! I'm officially lazy now, I don't wanna cook, I just want people to bring me food whenever I want it. neutral

I see people taking their lunches to work, bowls of soup, homemade this & that - HAAA! Fool, I'm going to the kickass Thai place down the street, see ya! I'll be up in the middle of the night (b/c I work late shifts) knowing I could make something light & simple, but I'll pop some popcorn or drink a big glass of water instead - anything to keep from cooking. sad

I need help, reform & a good look @ my bank statement :O It's just too easy to go to my favorite places where they know me, throw me a warm smile, know what I want, get it quickly, doesn't cost much & tastes really good. It all feels so wrong. sad HELP!!

This is SO me!!... :O..I literally have to force myself to NOT eat out sometimes...

Chile...it's after 2pm, and I'm eating for the first time today. I'm sitting here eating leftover rice with Italian sausage chopped up in it, and my balancing out food is a bodacious orange and a boring green apple. rolleyes

You're asking to be inspired by someone who was at one time a fast food Queen. ill Don't get me wrong, I haven't 100% cut out the fast food, in fact I need to cut down even more, but compared to how often I used to eat it for lunch and dinner there's a vast difference now. I had to hit rock bottom before I had to summon up the discipline to eat more healthy home made food. That may be what you have to go through. Once you balance things out you'll feel so much better, your skin will be clearer, you'll have more energy, yada, yada, blahhh. Yes, I admit that sounds boring when you want some greasy enchiladas.

But I have to add; it can be dangerous physically in the long run, especially when it comes to our generation (people in our age range, to be more precise). I'm half-way on the wagon, and I fall off from time to time - Mexican food is pure EVIL! Dammit!!! And I actually like McDonalds breakfast menu, though I'm not into McDonalds in general. They're evil too.

It's not called addiction for nothing.

Over the past 5 years or so I've been buying cook books and making more of my own stuff. I just had to figure out the foods I like best and find cook books that cater to my whims. But I get lazy too. Usually to combat my laziness I stay away from fried foods when I eat out. And that's difficult too. Maybe you should try cutting down on the fried stuff first, because going cold turkey all of a sudden usually doesn't work for most folks. Um, so I guess those are my words of inspiration. eek

Btw, when I see those goddamn Carls Jr. commercials with people eating big, humungous, greasy burgers it doesn't make me hungry at all. It makes me nauseated. I think of clogged arteries the minute that drip of pure cholesterol hits the floor, and the person eating looks like an overwrought hog to me. whofarted

Yea but that's the thing - I'm not even eating greasy fast food :O It's usually Thai food (asparagus & shrimp over rice or pad thai), a deli sandwich (Quiznos is killing me!) a vegetarian sandwich (California Pizza Kitchen, shit is GOOD!), or the occassional pizza (CAPK, all mushroom or shrimp w/ goat cheese). It's more the act of eating out than what I'm eating, I do pretty good @ avoiding typical fast food but I do get weak every now & again (like today sad). Then again, all restaurant food is kinda dangerous :O Help me WANT to cook!! biggrin

Now see, if I had tasted Thai food I might be singing a different tune. I've never had it and so many people are telling me it's so damn good. And I've been eating sub sandwiches for lunch and dinner about twice a week lately.

It's more the act of eating out than what I'm eating, I do pretty good @ avoiding typical fast food but I do get weak every now & again (like today sad). Then again, all restaurant food is kinda dangerous :O Help me WANT to cook!! biggrin

Oooohh. If only you could read the in depth story in a magazine I have about slaughterhouses, that just might do the trick. You might have to be scared straight to cut down (or it might make you go vegetarian). The article can sometimes be downright horrific about what goes in some restaurants and fast food places. I sort of doubt you want to go to the lengths of finding them, but if so it's issue #799 and #800 of Rolling Stone, parts 1 & 2. They're from 1998. "From The Slaughterhouse To The Grill/The Dirty Secrets of Fast Food." Very detailed.

Short of that, the only thing I can think of is that you should think of cooking as creating, which it is basically. When I cook and get compliments about my food I take the compliment humbly, I don't have a big head about it, but at the same time I KNOW I'm a badass in the kitchen. (2the9s you just shut yer pie hole). It gives me a lot of satisfaction that people like what I create. Then again, I don't always cook for other folks.

This stuff doesn't sound like a quick fix for you. :O

I have a feeling you'll probably just burn out on eating out before you take action. neutral

biggrin I'll try to check out those Rolling Stone Articles. I've been moving toward the idea of going vegetarian for a WHILE now. I know it'll take time (years in my case, lol), but I'm making baby steps: veggie sandwiches whenever possible, Boca Burgers (soy) @ home, I try to stay away from chicken in restaurants (but I really should be staying away from restaurants!!) lol Maybe the articles will do the trick & help get me outta this slump smile

Hi CalhounSq!

I read your story and I thought: when did I write this?

You're like describing my life!

I even made up some ethical principles to justify it. Like it causes less litter, is more efficient, more social, etc.

I always take a newspaper with me. There are several places where they know that they can put the food upon my newspaper. It always evokes a smile.

I confess that I am also addicted to eating out. But I've found that cooking for only one or two people is not very economical, and being the busy guy that I am, I value convenience... I see time as money.

I suppose it also doesn't help that I work on a block with three places to get a good, inexpensive lunch... and there are many, many more (including the City Market, which is like a giant food court) within walking distance.
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

Buy stuff at the grocery store that you will be excited about preparing.

Or take the cash you WOULD have spent if you ate out and put it in a bank and at the end of the week/month use it for something else.

mr.green

The solution is easy for me - I don't eat out cause I don't have the money at all.

just for the record, though, there is actually no cum on that... it's all food: olives, mayo, spicy mustard, bread, various seeds and oats...

and we didn't serve it to customers... me and janet got bored one evening and she started making a bread penis... so, i decided that i needed to make break boobs... then it became obvious that the boobs and the penis could have a lot of fun with each other, espcially since we always joke around about pearl necklaces... we just left it in the back of store- not for customers to see...

HoldOn2UrWigs

REASONS 4 CSQ 2 STOP EATING OUT...

1. THE WATER BUG WAS A ROACH!
2. FINDING OUT THE CRISPY FRIED ONION BIT ON UR BURGER WAS A ROACH ALSO.
3. PULLING THINGS FROM UR MOUTH AFTER CHEWING, AND FINDING LEGS AND ANTENNAE ON THEM.
4. NOTICING A (WATERBUG) ON THE WALL, THEN LOOKING AWAY AND BACK, NOT C ING IT, BUT FINDING U HAVE A RATHER STRANGE SHAPED OLIVE BIT NOW GYRATING N UR PIZZA CHEESE.
5.FEELING A RATHER LARGE SLIPPERYNESS GOING DOWN UR THROAT N UR PLAIN APPLE JUICE.
6. THE LAST DAY FROZEN MAD COW MEAT IS SERVED, U GET THE PIECE THEY DIDN'T THROW OUT!
7. and the MAIN reason u should stop eating out, PRINCE won't b able 2 help ur FAT bhind up on stage when he is here again...and he says on the mic, so EVERYBODY CAN HEAR..."have mercy momma, what choo been eatin?" love shake love

erm other than that, don't stop til u get enuff! my dear.
