I'm addicted to EATING OUT...

.

I went through a long spell of freelancing & there was no work - I was PO', cooking all the time b/c it helped save money. Now that work is more steady & cash is more expendable, I've lost my friggin' mind! I'm officially lazy now, I don't wanna cook, I just want people to bring me food whenever I want it. neutral

I see people taking their lunches to work, bowls of soup, homemade this & that - HAAA! Fool, I'm going to the kickass Thai place down the street, see ya! I'll be up in the middle of the night (b/c I work late shifts) knowing I could make something light & simple, but I'll pop some popcorn or drink a big glass of water instead - anything to keep from cooking. sad

I need help, reform & a good look @ my bank statement :O It's just too easy to go to my favorite places where they know me, throw me a warm smile, know what I want, get it quickly, doesn't cost much & tastes really good. It all feels so wrong. sad HELP!!

***

And for anyone who thought this thread was gonna be sexual... spank mr.green

Do you own any cookbooks?

I find them to be the biggest inspiration to cook a good meal. My favorite is the Joy of Cooking, by Rombauer and Becker. It's the definitive book on all the basics, and then some. I prefer the older version, which you might find at a thrift store. The newer one has been revised to be "healthier" neutral

Go buy yourself some recipe books, and stock up on basic ingredients... all you need is some inspiration.

Don't feel bad. I am totally lazy, too. I am a single mom of three and my sister AND her two daughters have moved in with me. I don't feel like coming home everyday and cooking for seven people. Ain't gonna happen. But, I find I am getting real sick of takeout food. It's pretty cheap, but we've had everything over and over again. Once my sister and her kids move out, I'm really gonna try to start cooking again. Really. Yeah, really...

I totally hear you. I have no damn money, but the staff at a couple of restaurants around here know me by name. It's terrible. And now they've opened up a vegan pizza joint just down the street. Used to be we didn't really have any great take-out sort of options, which helped. Now. . .I must have spent $100 in the past two months on pizza. . .sick.

Cookbooks be damned. Eating out is way better. sad

Oh my God I would DIE if I found a waterbug in my food! omfg They creep me out the most out of all bugs, except for centipedes. Otherwise, I don't mind insects and spiders that much.

Wait till your day off, bored and in front of the TV. Remember the best comfort meal you used to make for yourself, one that no restaurant would or could do, get yourself into the kitchen and make it. Failing that, make pie and scoff the lot. Either way you will soon find that home cooking is much better for you as well as therapeutic and relaxing to spend time preparing.

Having said that I can't be arsed to cook tonight so i am probably gonna eat out, amen. I totally feel what you are saying.

Yea, I heard it was pretty sick (didn't see it for myself, thank God). I probably wouldn't be able to eat Thai to this day... shake

It nice to know I'm not alone in this!

It's expensive though... I look at my statements online and see the wasted dollars, add them up and I could have had so many CD's, clothes, toys for the cat, saved a wad of cash, etc...

Hi CalhounSq!

I read your story and I thought: when did I write this?

You're like describing my life!

I even made up some ethical principles to justify it. Like it causes less litter, is more efficient, more social, etc.

I always take a newspaper with me. There are several places where they know that they can put the food upon my newspaper. It always evokes a smile.

If you're ever in Amsterdam, I recommend Nam Kee (a fine Chinese restaurant with the ambience of a bathroom) and The Bird (Thai and extremely small).

Well, it's 18:43 here and I'm getting hungry.

Love your healthy life and do nothing about it.
