Are you unemployed?

Are you unemployed?

If so,how long have you been unemployed?

Are you underemployed? Too unskill and dumb for a job?

I have been unemployed for 2 years, and still looking. Being unemployed, does a number on your mind and self-esteem. Hopefully, things will straighen out soon.

Most likely not.

I work part-time myself and I'm really just "on call". Meaning, I might go for weeks without having any work assignments.

I end up pretty much with the same amount of money than what I did after taxes and other payments as I did when I was working full-time. I'd probably end up with a similar amount of money if I'd just sit on my ass at home and receive unemployment benefits. Finland is a funny country in that respect.

I made a decent amount of money in the summer, so I've been doing just fine to be honest.

Same here. I have a couple of freelance gigs, but nothing fulltime. Got laid off last March, and my unemployment ran out last week.

Identity

I went through the demoralizing experience of losing a job, being overqualified for others, struggling with self-pity and fearing the future. That's when I decided to take a risk and join the ranks of the self-employed. That was almost 4 years ago, and I never looked back.

I've always wanted to become self-employed, but am not sure how to get started. How did you go about it if you don't mind my asking? I've got some money I can invest into a business, but the franchises I've seen cost well over $100K and I really don't want to invest that much.

I recycle electronic goods. I used my own capital to invest (the little I had left), relied heavily on word of mouth advertising and had, luckily, few other competitors at the time.

Yeah recycling has become quite profitable, especially metal. I had some old metal shelving and a washing machine that I wanted to discard, multiple businesses wanted to pick it up and haul it away for free.

Well congrats on following your dream. Like you said, there is risk involved but there's nothing better than working for yourself IMO.

same, I work for myself, so some weeks no work, others CRAZY dead

I don't make a lot of money now, but it's OK nod I made some smart choices in my life and it's paid off

I'm the mistake you wanna make
