T.J. Holmes Filling in on MSNBC

December 29, 2012

Link

Former CNN anchor T.J. Holmes, who left the network a year ago to join BET was back on cable news today, on MSNBC.

MSNBC tells us Holmes is doing some holiday fill-in work for them, today sitting in for Alex Witt.

Holmes’ hire by BET earlier this year was seen as a move the network was expanding its news presence. In April, the network announced Holmes would host a daily late-night conversation/comedy/current events program called Don’t Sleep. But in October, six weeks after launch, the show was scaled back to one night a week.

On Twitter this afternoon, Holmes thanked viewers for feedback adding, “Wasn’t perfect but hey, I’m rusty!”

I saw him today and I was like... eek

But like I said in the other thread, I thought it was a really risky move for him to take the BET deal anyway.

Brotha gotta eat.

His one-year stint at BET lasted nine months longer than I'd expected. BET has never been synonymous with serious news analysis and reporting.

BET basically turned their back on grown folks over a decade ago and one half hearted attempt to win them back ain't gonna cut it.

TJ is a decent journalist and his heart was in the right place but BET may be beyond any hope of redemption.

I haven't watched any show on BET in over 3 years. That network is somewhat of a broadcasting graveyard, which raises the question: What was T.J. thinking in the first place? He might want to give Jacque Reid a call. Remember BET Nightly News?

Maybe he actually had some hope that his work on this nightly news show would had actually made a difference in helping BET....then realized that it wasn't working. So he went back to something that does. Just happens sometimes I guess. shrug

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

He had to try.

And who knows, maybe one night will turn into 2 nights a week, and so on.

It would be nice if it makes it. There's nothing on TV for black folks like it.

Cant be mad at him for caring...I would have hoped that BET would have made a serious commitment to developing this project and other adult oriented programming.

It's just not enough on BET's part.
