Valentines Day

Do you celebrate or acknowledge this (holi)day?

If you do who and what is the extent of your expression?

This seems to be one of those days that causes a lot of (what I find humorous) distress to both genders

If it's celebrated in your country, howdo people generally express it

In kindergarten and early elementary school kids are taught to in a sense show love to everyone, we gave Valentines and Valentine candy to anyone regardless of gender, but as people get older it turns into a Male - Female expression of Eros

have not celebrated this mockery since elementary school. if i had someone, we'd both take the day off (or hook up after or before work respectively), do nothing, boff, smoker cigs/weed, make out in between tv shows and tunes and just enjoy each other's nonsense til the next day and we break up or lose each other's phone numbers. mushy

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Absolutely!

I have a 15 year old daughter too. I have been buying her gifts since she was little.

You need to take every opportunity to make the ladies in your life feel special.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Cool, so you think it's tradition that will go both ways for the rest of your lives?

Is it more geared toward 'women/girls' receiving and men giving?

I am a fan. My bf is not. neutral

And he has class on Thursday evening anyway. So -

I'm gonna make chocolate mousse on Thursday and chill overnight to "celebrate" on Friday. In the next day or so I'll figure out what I (or we) can make for dinner that's not just a typical weeknight meal for us. We're both good cooks, so sometimes it'a difficult to remember to be extra creative or special for a meal.

I will have a card for him that says something nice and meaningful and I have a small, inexpensive gift for him as well - a stir thingy for natural peanut butter. You may think that doesn't sound very romantic but I've chosen it specifically because it is thoughtful (he has mentioned wanting one), practical (which he values in material items and gifts) and since I know he's not big on gifts or valentine's day it's not over-the-top or cliche in any way.

Well, even though your honey isn't a fan of Valentine's Day, he treats you like a queen all the rest of the time. You're blessed, chile, AND he's lucky to have you, too. Hope you have a lovely dinner with lots of romance. heart

Ummm...where did you get the stir thingy? Because I could use one of those, too. lol

My Sweetie always says he's not into Valentine's Day. ("I love you every day." - Sweetie) But I somehow always end up with flowers or dinner or something. I usually get him a card, but this year, I got him two - a funny one and a mushy one.

It's difficult to get him anything for Valentine's Day because his birthday is the 12th (tomorrow). I run out of imagination. lol

I do something every year.

When I was in college I would get small gifts for all of my close friends

and arrange them outside of their doors with a little note. Gender did not matter to me.

I would also send my sister and brother a few chocolate heart flowers and a box of Sees candy to

my mom.

I've always had 1+ Valentine(s) each year. I go all out. I've also been "pretend" married

multiple times on Vday.

This year, me and the cutie and going to a Greek restaurant. I also hand made her some PJs.

I knitted her sister a scarf.

"Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

I celebrate it every year in order to take advantage of the specials that hookers like to offer at this time of the season.
Like last year, me a couple of my buddies pooled our finances & we bought what is called a "St. Valentines Day Massacre".
What it is,
is that a bunch of hookers dressed up as fake cops line you up against the wall and then proceed to blow you away.

Yes; I wake the woman lying next to me by slapping her face with my erect penis, and say:

"Good morning, honey! Happy Valentines Day! Look here, I made you some breakfast!"

I'm kinda romantic you know. shrug

i love valentines day! i decorate my house for it and put decorations on my front door. my husband and i exchange cards and a gift. we also give our son a card and gift. plus my son has a valentines day party at school where they give cards to each child and have pizza and cupcakes. i don't consider valentines day to be stressful at all, and my husband likes to shop, so i'm a lucky girl. wink also i get to celebrate valentines day twice every year, because my husband is from Brazil, they celebrate that day in june.

I used to do that, too. I sent one to my best girlfriend/suitemate, but I didn't sign my name. It wasn't one of those mushy cards, just a general "Happy Valelntines Day, with love." When I asked her if she had received any cards, she said, "Yeah! I got one from Tilman (her boyfriend at the time), but he swore he didn't send it, but I know it was him!" I think I burst her bubble when I told her it was from me. I ended up apologizing for sending it because she seemed so hurt. confused

Frankly I've always hated this holiday.

This year is the only year I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm not sure what to expect from my boyfriend...but I got a little surprise for him. mushy

We both have Thursday off except for one class. So this should be a good day. biggrin

I just have one thing to say to the guys: No grown woman wants a four-foot-tall teddy bear. You think flowers wilt quickly? Wait 'til you see how fast that thing goes to the Goodwill.

and guys? no vacuum cleaners or other household appliances disguised as valentine's day gifts. that's the gift that says 'drop the chocolates and git back to work, woman' and we all know valentine's day is not about housework, right?

And no lingerie, either. That just says, "It's Valentine's Day - gimme sex, woman."

I always give Sweetie lingerie (for me to wear) - since it's mostly for him, anyway.

About 7 years ago, I and my sister in law got my family together my parents 2 brothers sister in law and 1 nephew at the time

And we spread the table, had valentine hearts, sweets, cooked dinner bought dessert and had everyone dress up and we celebrated Valentines day together. It was fun.

Love:

Storge (στοργή storgē]) means "affection" in ancient and modern Greek. It is natural affection, like that felt by parents for offspring. Rarely used in ancient works, and then almost exclusively as a descriptor of relationships within the family.

Well I've always felt it was a silly day to celebrate, because you should cherish your loved ones everyday lol. But since they've kinda changed it and made it more about people you love - like friends, siblings, parents and etc - it's not that bad lmao. It's like a mini Xmas where you get chocolate. lol
