Working on your New Years' Resolutions yet?

Now that Christmas is over and the New Year is but days away, is anyone out there thinking of a resolution for the coming year?

deal

I have a few things on my list for 2013.

More like a "things to accomplish" list, but whatever...here goes;

  1. READ SHAKESPEARE. I have never, ever read anything by the master of the English language. I am taking my Amex gift certificate to Barnes & Nobles and buying something from Shakespeare. (Any suggestions?)
  2. DRINK WATER. I barely drink plain H2O on a daily basis. This will change.
  3. FLAT STOMACH. This will hopefully be the year of no belly for me. Not thinking of six pack abs (yet) just want to lose the spare tire.
  4. BUY CAMERA. I want to get that GOOD camera (finally). pray
  5. ASK HER OUT. I'm doing it, dammit. boxed

So there goes.

What about you guys???

question

This year I'm learning Spanish. And I'm planning a trip to somewhere that speaking Spanish will be useful. I've wanted to learn for about 3 years now. My old neighborhood had lots of Spanish-speaking immigrants (mostly from Mexico) and I always wanted to be able to understand my neighbors on the bus, in line at the store, whatever. I'm not in that neighborhood anymore, but it will still be handy in Mpls and I REALLY want to travel to South America soon. I've never been on that continent.

AND - my wonderful bf bought me the Spanish Rosetta Stone for Xmas! Levels 1-5, I think. So looking forward to it.

I also have a resolution to get engaged this year. lol It's not completely within my control, but it had better happen, dammit.

2013 objectives:

Read 26 books, and at least four of them should be somewhat weighty/academic. I was on pace for that in 2012, but some personal and professional things slowed me down in the last quarter.

Have the beginnings of a thriving ant colony by year end. That’s more of a dream than an objective, since I can’t really control my queen’s output, but I’ll do everything I can to make her productive.

Keep my weight under 180lb throughout the year (I crept over 180 yesterday for the first time since November 2011 last night - harrumph).

Incrementally increase my savings rate to 75% of total 2013 net income (not including pension/ESOP contributions).

PurpleJedi, if you have an e-reader or tablet, you can actually find a lot of Shakespeare stuff for it for free.

As for me, I don't like to make new goals just because it's a new year, but I have some things in mind that I'd like to do. I'm going to continue to work on my fitness. My results have been mega slow but I've gained a lot of strength since I started and I'm not going to give up. I'm going to continue to eat healthier. I'd like to read more things that are not my textbooks, so I've been loading up my new tablet with books. Since I've been single for a few months now, I'd like to get myself to start meeting new people, be it for friendship or dating.

Which one would you start with (for someone who's a good reader but has never read his work before)???

How in God's Earth are you going to live on only 25% of your earning??? (Well...unless you're part of the 1%?)

I don't do resolutions, but I make things happen -resolutions tend to be ignored.

Things to look forward to is the Seattle ORG invasion-there are some fun, quirky, and yes Princely surprises planned.

I have some house reconstruction that I will be doing this summer.

When buying a high end camera, I went into best buy and haggled my way to getting 500.00 0ff camera and they gave me 50% off any accessory. So, you can haggle with them. The camera wasn't on sale nor the accessories.

omg That's great! I've been told that Best Buy doesn't haggle (whereas our local competitor P.C. Richard's does).

However...when I buy my "good" camera, it'll be less than $1K (the one I want is a Pentax weather resistant DSLR that I saw on QVC for $769.00) and I want to make payments on it (which is why QVC is appealing).

MacDaddy

2013 is the year where I start out jobless (willingly so) and start studying again, after some travelling.

I will be doing a graphic design course and countinue working on my plan to move to South Africa permanently.

Typo edit.

That's cool man. nod

Is there a market for Graphic Designers in South Africa? I mean, I know you want to live there in general...but is this change in profession (I assume) related to your move (or in spite of it)???

Honestly I stress too much
I worry too much
I care too much
I give everything I have

And I get walked all over
And I get taken advantage of
And it hurts

So now in 2013 I am not going to give a fuck

My mind is filled with the most banal of goals. Utterly average in every way.

Eat less junk

Exercise more

waste less time

So right now I am sitting on my ass eating a chicken kiev sandwich with potato chips telling this to a bunch of strangers who don't care! smile
