Robert Townsend and Keenen Ivory Wayans used to be a comedy team?

Similar to Abbott and Costello, the Smothers Brothers, ect. I knew they worked together on various projects and are best friends, but never knew they performed together as a comedy act ... at least for a short time.

This is taken from an episode of 'An Evening at the Improv' or 'Bubb Friedman's Improvisation' from Feb 19, 1982.

Check out around the 25 min mark or the third index. Also, a young Stephen Wright is on the same episode.

Here is an episode from a year earlier featuring Robert Townsend solo, but billed as "BOB Townsend." Jim Carrey is featured on this episode also.

Check him out around the 15 min mark or the second index.

I think I read somewhere in one of the Wayans biographies that Robert and Keenen were always working on stuff together in the early years of their careers.

Hollywood Shuffle...Townsend's "Partners in Crime" specials (is that what they were called?)...those are the first time I ever saw the Wayans boys.

Anybody remember "Rock Cops" with Keenan as Prince and Townsend as Michael Jackson?

Keenen and Robert started to make a name in "Hollywood" (no pun) after the success of Hollywood Shuffle in early 87. Before then, both were tryin to get their foot in the door. In the early 80s both of them, Robert mostly in films like A Soldiers Story, Ratboy, Streets of Fire and Keenen in short lived TV series like Irene, For Love and Honor and guest spots on CHiPs, Bensen and Cheers.

After both being rejected countless times or only being offered certian roles, they came of with Hollywood Shufffe and the rest is history.
