Fruitcake

Okay, 'tis the season. And I can't be the only one who likes it. hmph!

I have a couple rules, though. I don't like fluorescent fruit. A little peel is fine and red cherries are okay. But none of those green things. talk to the hand

And it must be boozy. Dry "doorstop" fruitcake is right out.

So who else likes it? Anybody make it?

I think they're just peel and cherries that have been dyed. But why? Cherries are s'posed to be red, fer cryin' out loud! whofarted

I'm starting to regret that I didn't make Christmas pudding this year. Fortunately, I still have some from last year in the 'frig.

And I'm pretty sure I can persuade my mom to make some before I go to Arizona at the end of January. Hell, she might even make it without me asking - since I ask for it every year! lol

I think a lot of people like fruitcake. The problem is, they don't want fruitcake to be considered as their Christmas present.

What is that? After all these years I still don't know WTF that is, I just pick them out. lol

I haven't always like fruit cake but I like it now. You do have to know someone that makes them just right as you mentioned. Some Rum/Eggnog and fruitcake, I'll be drunk in 20 minutes but on a full stomach. Life is good. lol

I kinda like my fruitcake without the booze because I'm usually chugalugging Rum/Eggnog with it.

The booze is essential. And you must wrap the fruitcake in muslin and drizzle it with more booze at least monthly. nod

Lots of people get fruitcake from them.

No one asks for fruitcake from them.

I thought at first that this was going to be a fruitcake-bashing thread, and that I was going to have to be the ONLY one to come through to say how much I've always loved it.

Anyway... I've always loved fruitcake.

It's never been my thing and the only time i would eat it is if my

grandmother would make it. She would make it with just the pineapple

and the green things lol and nuts. I always hated dates and raisins which

to me are the most distasteful and unpleasant things to chew on this earth.

Since she's been gone for 19 years i haven't eaten anyone's fruit cake since.

My uncle makes a fruit cake every christmas and you can smell the liquor drenching from

that sucker.

My grandmother, now deceased, used to make fruitcake and it was really good. It use to be our "Christmas gift" from her...but as she got older, my aunts started charging family members $10 for my grandmother's homemade fruitcake. rolleyes Then after my grandmother passed, one of my aunts tried using the recipe and making fruitcake cookies instead. I had to give a side eye on that. Now no one makes the fruitcake at all. confused And I don't dare buy any of those imitation fruitcakes out the grocery store. barf
