Carl's Jnr

This chain has just opened some restaurants here in Auckland, New Zealand, this food which is mostly even more fattening than McDonalds has now 4 restaurants in low income suburbs in Auckland. A new store was opened last week in Mangere (A very low income area with a 65% Polynesian population) and did $92k (US $77K) in 5 days.

The food is very popular but been heavily criticised by health and social groups, reperesnting the residents of this region, where more people suffer from Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity related illnesses than any other part of the country.

Many obese Tongan and Samoan people in this area die in their 40s from heart attacks and obesity related illnesses, in an area where junk food outlets are everywhere, yet fruit and vegetables are mostly absent due to price.

What is your experience with Carl's Jnr food in the States and anywhere else, is it as bad as it is here?

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Is there such a thing as healthy fast food?

I go to Carls at least once a week lol I usually order the BBQ chicken sandwich, I substitute my fries for a side salad and get a black ice tea to drink. Now if I wasn't looking for the healthiest items on the menu i'd be eating a Western Bacon Cheeseburger instead and crisscut fries with ranch! faint

I love Carls, Jack in the Box, and Burgerville. Burger King and Dairy Queen are the best fast burgers you can get here. I don't know what the hell happened to Wendy's but their burgers are atrociously bad now. McDonalds I only eat at because I live a few hundred feet away.

I highly doubt any food that has a high fat content, high salt content, low fiber content, even if you cooked it at home everyday would be good for you.

I don't think there are any studies of someone who maybe eats at these fast food places a couple of times per week, yet maintains a diet mostly with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of color, lots of variety showing how they fair health wise. The problem seems more to be that a lot of people who eat at such places tend to have a large percentage of their dietary intact from these places cause it's cheap, easy and filling, no other time in human history has getting food been so easy.

Fast food is bad for you, period. It's not healthy, no matter what you do, period. Compare the fat and calories in it to what you make at home, even if you're trying to only be a LITTLE bit healthy, and it's clear how bad it is.

But still, whatever. So long as you aren't in denial about what you're putting in your body, if it tastes good to you, eat it. You only live once and all that. Probably better to try to do that moderation thing, though.

Personally, it's been so long since I ate that kind of stuff that I don't remember what it tastes like. I haven't had a burger in like, fifteen years. Errr... shit. Longer than that! However, Cerebus is known to have an unexplainable love for "vegetarian" Taco Bell items. shrug

Naaa.... I don't like their burgers. We have too many good places here in Dallas (between hole-in-the-walls and Whataburger) and Carl Jr. just doesn't compare.

They have only been here in North Texas about 10 or so years and they are not really widespread. I've hade a few of their burgers and one chicken sandwich and I am never really satisfied with their food. The only thing I like is the fried zucchini.

I have to admit I have never been there, waiting a month as thoise restaurants have been clogged and they have even run out of materials at times.

Not sos ure that all of the menu is replicated here, know that their Country and Western Star burger has attracted some flack along with the cheesey fries (Yuk!!!!)

We have just never had food like this here, we only have McDonalds, KFC, Wendys, Burger King (Actually called that here, not like in OZ), Dominos and Pizza Hutt in the American food chain.

Restaurant Brands (Our local divison of YUM! Brands, runs KFC, Pizza Hutt and Carls Junior). The new restaurants has put them back in the red as KFC only breaks even, even with the double down burger (Here we call a burger, what you guys mostly refer to as sandwiches), and Pizza Hutt has been haemorraging money for years, even with its $5 Pizza.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
