So they are just using a formula to determine that? If so, then it's tough to argue with it (for the last 3 films, at least)

But you could also argue that he's the shrewdest actor in Hollywood, maximizing his pay despite not having huge box office power anymore.

He maybe considered overpaid, but at least he's earned it. It's not easy playing multiple characters in "The Nutty Professor", "Coming To America", and "Norbit", and I do agree that he's talented. Also to add, he has business sense.

I don't agree totally with Forbes. An artist should be able to work without it always being a blockbuster. But after attending Eddie Murphy's tribute & witnessing him first hand in "DreamGirls" He is the most gifted of his & this generation & deserves every penny he gets from any movie the rest of his life....

It's really easy to take potshots at Eddie Murphy these days, because he has starred in some really bad movies. However, what's conveniently left out of the stories about Eddie Murphy's horrid box office is that some of the movies he starred in were held back by the studios themselves because they knew those movies sucked big time, and only a small part of it had anything to do with Eddie Murphy's actual performance in those movies. The Adventures of Pluto Nash was shot back in 1999 but wasn't released until 2002 because the studio itself couldn't figure out whether to shoot a comedy or a sci-fi movie, and the end result was a huge mess. As for A Thousand Words, it was actually made back in 2008, but once again the studio messed up the movie, and they sort of quietly released the movie back in February of this year. Tower Heist could be considered a disappointment, but it was an ensemble cast that starred Ben Stiller, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, Tea Leoni, and Gabourey Sidibe, so it wasn't just an Eddie Murphy movie.

I think you could be right. His last movie is one of his worst. I don't think he sucks, but appears like he's not offered good scripts, and he rather prefers to be in a crap movie instead of no movie. Yes, but Eddie accepting those roles, he's also held responsible for those crap movies. Do you think average person is spending time thinking over whether he gets offered good scripts? If he's a good actor? All they see is crap movie, crap acting. Check out the last movie!

I don't know about that. Eddie is a comedy actor, he can only be ranked amongst his peers in that specific genre. If you wanna compare then Pitt and Keanu are the wrong ones. Maybe Sandler or Chusack?

it doesn't matter, the point is an actor can be concerned with doing good movies, or they can be concerned with doing good work in whatever kind of movie. Only the best seem to do both. And actors have limited control over the outcome.

All Eddie has to do is another raunchy stand-up special and folks will jump right back on his bandwagon.

He never will, but the "family friendly" thing killed his career.

Eddie was the name on every newscasters lips when this story was reported on the news....So yes he was singled out.
