Yes I am very happy for the lovely couple but...

the British press have gone to town on the fact she is in hospital with severe morning sickness, & I mean 10 minute extended reports with specialists on lunchtime ITN. It is seriously ridiculous. Most women get morning sickness & I myself ended up overnight in hospital on a drip, as did 2 of my friends. It's quite common. It annoys me that it gets such a high profile cuz Kate Middleton is having accute morning sickness when you can only imagine about the thousands of horrendous & heartbreaking stories that other pregnant woman must be enduring every day in the UK. Makes me wonder...

Shiiiiiiiit... you saw what they did with Diana? Same damn thing. They've always done this for years. That's how the UK rolls. And unfortunately, that's how we roll too in the US. neutral

This is not run-of-the-mill morning sickness. It is severe morning noon and night sickness of a kind suffered by less than 10 percent of pregnant women. She couldn't even keep water down - which meant that dehydration was a real risk.

I have my own views on this, but....

...at the end ofthe day this, rather well to do, royal is a human being carrying a child.

... The poor scrote doesn't have any control over what's going on and certainly doesn't realise it's a royal (though the poor bugger soon will), it just wants the chance of life like the rest of us.

I just hope all women who suffer this get the same care and treatment

Tell me about it, I had a drip myself due to severe dehydration through continual vomiting! It's just dominating the bloody news over here & it's hardly earth shattering stuff. Yes, poor love must be feeling rotten but I'd rather the news concentrated on more serious things & stopped going on about it! It's everywhere, TV, radio, tinternet. It is a bit ridiculous.

all this means is that the BBC is going to turn into a royal special version of Hello... for about 2 FUCKING YEARS

I wish them well health wise but it's just another tax sponge that we're all going to have to pay for whilst struggling to make our own ends meet.

I don't think I'll bother with the british media for the next 2 years....

I think the majority of people in the UK, and certainly in my part of it (Scotland), aren't nearly as obsessed by, or even interested in, the royals as people on the other side of the pond seem to assume.

Just How Thrilled Are We ...regnancy"?

An interesting piece from a Scottish news website.

Some quotes:

Something which the coalition government has become very good at is creating an artificial sense of joy to distract us from the real problems which are affecting the country. We saw it with the royal wedding and the diamond jubilee and we have seen it again with the pregnancy.

To celebrate Kate’s pregnancy is to celebrate that the woman has performed the duty for which she was brought into the family.

I'm not a republican, I couldn't care less either way about the royals, but it's an interesting read.

The above is very much my take on it, too, tbh. There was almost a sense, after the Olympics and even the unusually-hyped Paralympics - the final hurrah - brought that whole sequence of big events to a close, of impending fear that now the summer of hyped-up 'national pride' was over, reality would hit and send us into a winter of discontent. It almost seemed like desperation that had Cameron rushing out plans for a £50m national commemorat... World War at that time, even though it wasn't set to start until 2014! This latest development is so perfectly timed, and will have so much mileage, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that the Prime Minister and Chancellor had been inundating Wills with Barry White CDs since the start of the summer, in a desperate attempt to coax his seemingly sexless frame into the royal boudoir.

At least with a protege CD, I get to choose whether I want to buy it. I'll have to support this little fucker for the whole of its (or my!) natural life, whether I'm inclined to do so or not! And, even though I'm footing the bill for it to have the very best education, healthcare, careers choices, etc, money and institutional privilege can buy, should we ever happen to meet, I'll be the one expected to bow down!! mad

You can see I'm really getting into the 'outpouring of national joy', can't you? wink

Indeed. Also - what kind of sick bastards want to celebrate the start of a war? Surely you commemorate at an anniversary of it ending, not starting. Mind you, that wouldn't give people a chance to get the Butcher's Apron bunting back out in the year of the Scottish independence referendum.

I remember seeing a cartoon just after the end of the paralympics, which had David Cameron asking Prince William "So...... any chance of a baby?".
