If U Became A Multi-Millionaire, Would U Post It On Facebook?

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned but I think only a moron would post that he/she has won the Powerball Jackpot on facebook! OMG! eek lol

A small town in Missouri is celebrating a local couple's new-found wealth after they reportedly claimed half of the record $587 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday.

David Troutman, a former high school classmate of the winning couple from Dearborn, Mo., spoke with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie on Friday.

NBC News revealed the couple’s identity later Friday morning, when lottery officials confirm...he winners.

“He was just an all-around good guy,’’ Troutman told Guthrie of Mark Hill, 52. “He was into football, sports. I was on Facebook and I saw that his wife had posted, ‘Thank you God, we won the lottery.’ Of course everybody in town, all his friends, gave all thumbs up. It couldn’t have happened to a better guy.’’

The couple, who Troutman said are high school sweethearts, have three adult children and a 6-year-old girl they adopted from China. The winning ticket was sold at a gas station in Dearborn. Lottery officials have scheduled a press conference at noon Friday at North Platte High School, where they will most likely announce the names of the winners. The couple's secret identity didn't last long in the town of only 496 people.

“Word spread that he won so fast,’’ Troutman said. “I heard that it was a winner from Dearborn, and by the time I walked in the door my mom was on the phone, and she said, ‘He won. It was him.’ Who knows what the impact will be on Dearborn.’’

The mom of the man who won spoke with NBC News about the overwhelming moment when her daughter-in-law shared the news.

“She came by here and she was shaking when I opened the door,’’ said the woman, whose name was not released publicly.

Dearborn is about 35 miles north of Kansas City, the home of the Royals baseball team. The winning Powerball numbers match the jersey numbers of Royals greats George Brett (5); Mark Gubicza (16); Bo Jackson (22); Dennis Leonard (29), Dan Quisenberry (29); and Willie Wilson (6). Kansas City’s spring training home also happens to be in Arizona, where lottery officials reported the other winning ticket was sold.

Though some theorize that the winners chose the numbers based on the Royals greats, sources told NBC’s Kerry Sanders that the winning tickets were computer-generated.

Just shows how important this social networking stuff is to the average person. If I were to get any kind of financial windfall, facebook wouldn't even be on my mind and I sure as hell wouldn't be posting on there for the world to know. As a matter of fact, if I did think about facebook, I'd be deleting my account(s). lol

a lot of states don't allow you to collect anonymously so the town would know anyway once they do the press conference and present you with the big check

I probably would and would naively think it would be no big deal.

Even if I held off on any kind of announcement I could never keep something that big a secret. It would become obvious whether I mentioned it or not unless I decided to disappear off of facebook. And I doubt I would.

Of course you're going to lose friends and you're going to have to learn to say "no" real quick.

But yeah, I can't imagine wanting to disappear. It's just not me. I'd deal with the fallout.

Well, everything in life is a calculated risk, right?

Living anonymously or cutting out all friends and family just to hold onto some money is no kinda life for me. I have no doubt at least a few of my relationships would be able to weather the changes of such a crazy amount of money. And having people I trust and care about around me who knew me before the money would be more important than ever. In your case it was his brother. What other solution would there be, cut everyone you know out of your life in paranoia all for some money? No thanks.

So yeah. I can't imagine remaining comepletely anonymous.

I have a fairly small circle of close friends that I wouldn't worry about. They'll be there no matter what - and will share in the winnings. I wouldn't actually give them money - they wouldn't accept it. But I'd treat them to some fun trips or dinners simply because I enjoy their company and would want to have them along. And they would take it in that spirit.

My family would get money - because I'd rather slit my wrists with a rusty razor than go on vacation with them. lol

I would really try my hardest not to get a big head about it, it's just money. I would never post it online, only tell a few trusted people who would never take advantage of me.

No, I would not post it anywhere. I would give some of it to relatives I care about, mainly my brother and a few cousins. I have a few acquanitances I know would worry the shit out of me, so I'd probably give them a few dollors, but if they continued to press me for more, I'd cut them off and tell them "no more. I'm not a goddamn ATM!" And I'd be very wary of folk with the sob stories. Mugs will say anything to get in your pockets.

Having that amount of money brings out all the greedy, crazy, "entitled" mofoes. I would move to some place quiet where no one knew me or my circumstances. I'm a loner anyway, so I could handle it.

Are you sure about tha? I would think that your anonymity would be your right. Maybe some states require proof that there was a winning ticket sold in a particular town/city and the initials of the winner, but not the full name.
