Yo, what is this? Yo! MTV Laughs.

Wow, never knew this even existed. This seems to be from 1989.

Featured Martin Lawrence, Damon Wayans and a young Shawn and Marlon.

I was lookin as a Kim Coles bio, and it said she performed on Yo MTV Laffs. So I had to do a google search and came to that Lawrence/Wayans video.

I did a deeper search and found out it was either a pilot for a future series or a one time special. I did find an article that seems like it would tell me everything about it, but you had to pay like 5 dollars on some archived news site ...

I do know it aired August 19, 1989 and Ice T and Young MC performed "Lethal Weapon" and "Bust a Move."

It was shot at the Comedy Act Theater (which I need to add that clip to my thread) so I wonder if Robin Harris was the host? Mario Joyner was interviewing Damon, and he was the host of MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour at that time so maybe he was the host of that special/pilot too?

This seemed like it would have been better than Comic View. Martin and Wayans were funnier than anyone in Comic Views 15 year run. lol

You know what, BET shot a pilot for a series at the Comedy Act around the same time too. Maybe that had to do something with it not being picked up, who knows.

Before the public knew who Rock was.

Rock was doing his thing back in NYC at that time wasn't he?

I wouldn't say Chris Rock wasn't well known then. I mean people then remembered him for being on "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" ("lemme order one rib! I sho am hungry! biggrin"). lol And yeah I think he was a successful stand-up in NYC at the time before SNL picked him up.

He was but besides being in two films all of 2 minutes combined and a few performances on Apollo, Showtime's Comedy Club and MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour, he was an unknown comic.

But than again Shawn Wayans at that time was, was more unknown that Rock, lol. Shawn's only credits at that time was a pedestrian and an extra in a Robert Townsend sketch from Partners in Crime, lol.
