It is a great thing. I smoked for 6 or 7 years and quit about a year and a half ago.

One question, I smoke but not that heavy such as a pack a day or what, I go through a pack about once every 2 to 3 days but I'd like to quit. I've heard about things that doctors can give you although I can't think of the names right now

Does it bother you when you drink ? I know I tend to smoke more when I drink and was wondering what others that quit smoking would go through ? any comments would be great ?

I smoked for about 16 years! (zoinks!) and I've been smoke free for over 7 months! March 23 will be 8 months! Cold turkey is really the only way to go I think but...do what ever it takes.

I was a light smoker also...less than a pack a day..but I think it is just as hard to quit.
Yes, it will bother you more when you drink, but I would suggest staying out of the bars for atleast a month, after that...I think you'll be ok. I found that once I was over the initial hard part (fist 2 weeks) just the smell of someone smoking was enough to fill my craving. I'd be like ahhh just a whiff is all I need. LOL!

I did hear on the tv and on the x-files in particular that cigarretes are just as hard to stop taking as heroin.i wunder if this is a fact or a myth?

Congrats. I was a smoker for years, but I quit last year. Once you've been a non-smoker for a while, you're going to start to notice that smokers have a smell that clings to them.

The smell clings to smokers hair and clothes, and I never noticed it until I became a non-smoker. Now I realize that's the way I used to smell to other people.

being in a bar doesn't bother me now...untill I leave, then all I can smell in my hair and on my clothes is cigs! blech!

Teller, lots more energy, even walking is better. I read it would be like this but I didn't believe it because I thought I had lots of energy, but now OMG! And that's just one of the great things about quitting.
Righteous1, People that don't smoke much now are just people who will smoke a pack or more a day later (that's what happen to me.) If you want to quit do it before you are smoking a pack a day in a year or so. DR's can give you meds to help but I don't know if they will give it to someone who only smokes a pack every 2 or 3 days. You could look into the patch, it's what I used and I thought it was great. Diamondgeeza, It is a fact nicotine is harder to quit then heroin. That's OK because once smokers get educated about it and get mad at the cigarette co for putting the nicotine in the cigarettes they are that more determine to quit. It's not easy but smokers can quit If I can do it anyone can.
