winter dryness

My hands and lips are already taking a beating and it's not even Thanksgiving yet.

I never used to have this problem, but the older I get the more my skin dries out in the drier weather. I drink lots and lots of water, so there's nothing more I can do on that front.

What are your favorite products to combat flaky, cracked skin? Especially, hands, feet and lips.

My daughter uses it on the babies who have ezcema.. I use it on my hands which get VERY dry and can crack if I wash my hands to much during the day... its kind of like vaseline, but has lanolin which is healing.. One of the few things I can use that doesnt bother sensitive skin

I was going to recommend ky but you didn't mean that kind of dryness.

Eucerin is a great recommendation. To help you can put on lotion and then gloves and socks.

My feet get so dry in winter they crack enough to shred blankets mad

So after scrubbing weekly with home made brown sugar or apple cornmeal scrub, I just follow up every day with a non-famous, store brand Vitamin E rich lotion.

Sometimes I might break out with this; Epoch Firewalker Foot Cream by Nu Skin.

For my hands I have to look and see what's in my purse .. confuse

Girl, I keep telling you - Kiehl's No. 1 lip balm!

Also...Jack Black hand cream. Made for men, so it isn't too foo-foo or greasy. But it really works.

I've switched back to Nivea & Gold Bond Ultimate last month when the dryness started.

Essentially Enriched Hydra IQ

Gold Bond Ultimate Soothing Lotion

I'm sure within a month I'll be using this Nivea

I am running across the street to Nieman Marcus RIGHT NOW to see if they have that lip balm (apparently, they carry Kiehl's!).

Straight up Vaseline! I coat my face in it when I get out of the shower at night and sleep in it- Face will feel fantastic in the morning- Put it on feet and put on socks- rub it all over- It's really great and does NOT clog pores like you would think-

Also, Marilyn Monroe used to sleep with vaseline all over her face every night smile

My face is actually good (other than my lips), but I'm considering doing vaseline/mittens overnight for my hands. My index fingers are starting to crack. sad

This. I don't use it on my face, but definitely everywhere else. nod

I've been using the Burts Bees Intense Hydration products for my face. So far so good. When it gets cold, I need something kind of heavy. My skin is so dry sad

Excellent! I have a couple of the tinted ones, too.

I keep a tube of that stuff on my bedside table, and in every purse I own. I honestly don't know how I ever got through the winter without it.

This is kind of gross, but it is also very good for coating the inside of your nostrils if you're going to be flying. It keeps you from getting dried out, doesn't really smell like anything, and I think it can help to prevent a flight-related cold.

I know what you mean. My hands, legs and lips take a beating in the cold months too.

I think there are a lot of great products out there, but I love the following:

Fresh Lip Balm

Bliss Hand Lotion

Korres Body Butter for my dry legs. I also use a little argan oil when they get really dry.

I use vaseline on my feet, hands, legs and tittays/pits area (yeah, I said tittays!) in the blistering cold months when its cold outside and dry inside.

on my face I use Aquaphor (I get wind burn easily) mixed with refined organic coconut oil for the more acne prone areas of my skin.

Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment

also argan oil is the BOMB... buy it in bulk if you can from an organic company... its pricey but worth it. You can mix it with your favorite lotion.

Also, but a humidifier and use it during the winter months... the air gets inside so its a must to keep the air moist.

Great suggestion about running a humidifier during the winter months.

Also, if this wouldn't be contraindicated by any medications you're on or medical conditions you have, take a good fish (or flax) oil supplement every day, and up the dosage a bit from the directions on the bottle. I do this and find it's very helpful with skin dryness.

Like folks have said a good humidifier does wonders in the winter. nod Look for one that's antimicrobial - filter free .. QVC has some good ones reasonably priced.

Also....

Shea butter

Cocoa butter

Aquaphor

Vitamin E oil

Jojoba Oil

And if you're old school and / or on a budget good 'ol fashion Corn Huskers Lotion can work 'dat ash out in one application.

Let us not forget a paraffin wax for the tootsies, it does wonders!!

Here's to an ash / dry skin free winter!!

OMG! I forgot about that stuff, its amazing!

Oh and the paraffin machine is awesome. I need to pull mines out and buy more wax for it, it really keeps the rough spots so soft and repairs damaged dry hands like nothing else.

nod
