Boardwalk Empire S3, Epi#10: "A Man, A Plan..." (Spoilers)

URRRGGGHHH!!!! Anybody else who watches this annoyed by the writing this season? Not only to mention the storyline has been slow as hell, but now it seems they are going to go at lightening speed in the last two episodes of the season.

What did you all think about the Owen-Margaret-Katy situation? Did you really think he was being sincere to Margaret as opposed to Katy? IMO, I think he was toying with and lying to both, although he may have actually had real feelings for Margaret. I just didn't see him leaving the gangster life that quickly. I always saw Owen as a playboy with smart business sense. I always knew he was a dead man walking as well, I do think he got off easy by ending up getting whacked by Masseria instead of Nucky after he would have (and yes he would have found out) about his affair with Margaret. So great, now Margaret is pregnant with Owen's baby. Well guess she knows what she needs to do now....

What is up with all the hits gone wrong this season? First the hit on Gyp went haywire and now the hit on Masseria went to shit. My question is, how in the world did Luciano know that the hit on Masseria was going to be at the Turkish bath? That means someone in Nucky's camp is talking big time. I put my money on either Agent Sawicki or Doyle.

What is up with Nucky burning bridges? He's so caught up on other things unknowingly pushing potential allies away, such as Chalky. And to be honest, Nucky needs all the help he can get. He has sent Eli to Chicago (to beg) for manpower but yet doesn't think that he needs Chalky help as well? Well looks like next week he'll have to eat some crow. Chalky is in a great spot, it'll be interesting to see how it'll play out (and whose side he'll choose). popcorn

Richard. Gotta love him. But that damn Gillian, she's got to go. I really would love to see what he's going to do with her. With Owen gone, will Nucky ask Richard to get on his team? Or will Richard be on Gyp's team? I honestly think the only team Richard will be on is Richard's team. lol

Oh and Van Alden...poor Van Alden can't catch a break!

I feel just the opposite about the writing of the show. I think this has been the best and most interesting season. I knew margaret was going to end up pregnant. There are plenty of interesting twists in this story. I just can't believe more Orgers don't watch this show. This show smokes the Sopranos!!!!! Even though I liked the Sopranos too. You know Chalky is going to save the day. He will be a major Character in future episodes. Also Richard is too interesting of a character to kill off. so I expect him to be on the show for the long haul. I'm interested in seeing what happens to Van alden. He's a strange dude.

Oh they know not to mess with Richard's character. He's mainly who keeps me interested in watching...well him and Chalky.

To see Van Alden to come full circle from Prohibition Agent to being a bootlegger is amazing.

I've seen a whole lot of similarities between BE and The Sopranos, though I loved The Sopranos too.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think BE's writing has been purposeful but plodding. Remember the Easter episode?

But if we're going to see young, dynamic characters get whacked every season, with Nucky becoming increasingly unlikeable (through script and no fault of Buscemi), and less focus on the most compelling characters in the entire show (Van Alden, Richard, and Chalky), then it will decline.

Until last night Margaret was becoming a bit of a broken record as a character too.

As for last night's episode:

1. Michael Shannon is the MVP of the show. Simply powerful. And Stephen Graham is really coming on as Capone. So their scene together was fantastic. More of both, I say.

2. More Richard. Jack Huston's portrayal is incredible, and has been from the very beginning. Loved his storyline.

3. Actually, I hope they tie up the Rosetti storyline, and feature more Luciano and Lansky in the next season as well.

4. Rothstein missing that last pool shot last night, and the look on his face when he missed it, was chilling. He's starting to realize his apprentices are going to move him out.

5. Sad for Owen, but that was inevitable.

6. Rarely has such a promising character in an HBO show declined faster than Gyp Rosetti's. They were supposed to write this season around him and seem not to know what to do with him.

BE is no Game of Thrones. But it has a lot of great characters and not enough screen time. If it's going to have so many key players, it's got to figure out how to prioritize.

gillian dropped the dime to gyp. (remember when she was reminiscing about jimmy to gyp at her ho-thel.) gillian has gone creep-batty since jimmy died. well, she wasn't wrapped too tight in the first place in that she slept w/her own son. imo that really messed jimmy up!

chalky (imo) is gonna end up getting disappointed via his club dream. unless capone gets wind of his club plan and decides to back chalky.

i'm so glad richard is being cared for by what's her face. (cannot remember her name) she seems so sweet and kind. she's not in pity to richard but seems in genuine care for him.

margaret went bonkers when she saw owen's body. wha-she gonna do now? nucky probly gonna have a melt-down when he finds out about her pregnancy.

van alden, with his frankenstein monster acting self is totally unpredictable to me at this point. i cracked up when he ran from the office building after cold-cocking (i mean hot cocking) that mocking sales co-worker with the iron. when van alden ran out i swear for a moment i thought he was going to blirt out a primal scream. van alden is one scary dude imo.

giggle

poe nucky don't nobody but his butler give a hank 'bout him at this point. anyway, what is it 2 more episodes? anything can happen at this point.

lol You misunderstood my question. I know HOW the hit happened with Gyp, but as far as the failed Masseria hit goes, Gillian had nothing to do with that one. That tip came from inside Nucky's camp to Luciano...we just don't know who yet. What I was saying is what is up with all the sloppyness going on with the hits being missed? First Luciano cluelessly spilled the beans to Gillian and then someone on inside Nucky's camp gave Luciano details, which we saw Luciano pass on to Masseria. Seems no one can get it right....aww but there is one who gets it right all the time, Richard Harrow.

On the HBO site, there is speculation going on that Nucky secretly knew about Owen and Margaret's affair and set him up to do the Masseria hit alone, knowing that Owen was in more danger than he knew and would get killed. I don't think this is true though...if you look at Nucky's reaction to Margaret sobbing over Owen's dead body, he looked really surprised to realize that the two were having an affair.

I'm not sure where the club idea from Chalky will go, but I don't see it as being of any importance..at least for now. I think that whole scene was set up to cast doubt on if Chalky will remain in Nucky's corner or not.

Van Alden to me, just like Richard, is one of the most intelligent characters in the show. He's just underestimated by others, just as Richard is as well.

Sad to say because I thought this was a GREAT role for Cannavale. I tend to think the writers botched it.

I haven't watched Game of Thrones but I hear that it's a great show.

It is the best show on television, IMO. Better than Boardwalk. It rarely lets its audience down.

Hmm, well maybe I need to go on HBO GO and play catch up on "Game of Thrones". The new season starts in April right?

Yes. But if you have time, watch the 20 episodes they put out over the last 2 seasons.

The key is to watch the first episode at least twice.

Our tastes may be different, but those who watch it are very loyal. And Peter Dinklage is amazing in it.

All the better when Rosetti gets killed (we all know he will) in the season finale. Fans will cheer like crazy.

Now that both Nucky and Margaret's lovers have become victims of this war, maybe they can become a real couple again?

Incidentally, I think Carnegie will be a central figure in Season 4 once his still is up and running.

Nucky has already killed Margaret's first husband. He got a mulligan for that for obvious reasons. I don't see Nucky getting a mulligan for Sleater, even though he lost someone too.

But who knows?
