But,let's be honest,MOST artists do take several years between albums.Madonna releases a new CD every three years,as does Janet,Whitney, and almost everybody else. There are very few artists who release a new album once a year.My feeling is,I don't mind waiting for that "great" album.I would rather wait three years for a GREAT album from my favorite artists, instead of settling for a mediocre album every year from my favorite artists.

But you're talking about recording artists who have achieved superstar status. Not everybody has. When you sell 5 - 10 million albums per release (a general number I'm throwing in), it's more likely that your next studio album won't be released the following year or two, for many reasons: riding out the succession of singles released, for some groups/artists not enough new material can be "properly" worked on during a tour supporting said album, the suits at the record company likes their timing better than yours when it comes to subsequent releases, etc... And it's different for different recording artists. It could be that and more.

I also think the example TRON gave differs for different recording artists. I've said this before; I think part, I said PART, of the reason for Prince's creative downfall during the 90s was due to burnout.
