h Funeral Planned for Sherm... His Death
Beloved actor Sherman Hemsley will be laid to rest six weeks after he died of lung cancer at age 64. The actor’s body lay in cold storage for 3 and a half months while Hemsley’s estranged brother contested his will. DNA testing proved Richard Thornton was Hemsley’s brother. But on Friday, an El Paso, Texas judge refused to consider the DNA because Thornton missed a deadline to present his evidence. A lawyer for Flora Enchinton, who was Hemsley’s manager and best friend, confirmed that Hemsley would be given a military funeral. The actor served in the United States Air Force.
“It is taken care of. It has been ruled on my behalf, and how Sherman wanted,” Enchinton told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “They were bringing up untrue facts, and it was sad because Sherman had to suffer for it.” Enchinton was listed as beneficiary on Hemsley’s will which was drafted six weeks before he died.
