Giving her husband's land away to the church has nothing to do with her marriage???

She decided to atone for both of them, which only compounded the error because atonement through deceit -- even at the expense of Nucky Thompson -- is not pure absolution. And that fact made her problem worse -- it probably gave Nuck the excuse (however weak) to step out on her to boot.

Exactly!!!

Jeeze, thank you! That act had nothing to do with her marriage to Nucky, it was to save herself. She was feeling a shit load of guilt when her little girl contracted Polio and blamed herself since she chose her way of life with Nucky.

Giving her husband's land away to the church has nothing to do with her marriage???

In my opinion it doesn't, but that's my interpretation of it and that's just fine. biggrin

Which is why I've been saying all this time that Margaret's root of unhappiness is caused by her own doing.

Right. Remember she left Nucky in the 2nd season and then turned right back around and came back because she missed the highlife and was "thinking of her childrens' futures." Yeah, right, Molly. Tell it to the lawd.

Richard is really the only character on this show who strives to become a better person after Jimmy's death and that's because he's an honorable man...love him! mushy I hope he finds happiness soon; he deserves it.

I was a bit surprised at how Gillian handled confirming Jimmy's death by offing a look alike but she's an evil, ruthless bitch so I guess I should have expected something was up. disbelief

falloff At Gyp's family...they made me feel a bit sorry for him; but, he's a crazy nutjob and now I can kinda see why.

Damn, Eli has a lot of kids. Nice to see him and Nucky working together. I hope Eli has learned that family is more important than anything else at the end of the day and realizes how lucky he is to have Nucky as a brother because Nucky could have had him executed or put in prison for life after Eli tried to have him killed.

lol I think Margaret is the most complex character in this series because she doesn't truly understand that you can't live worldly and Godly...you have to chose one or the other. She wants both; but, refuses to accept that Nucky really doesn't care about his faith. She keeps trying to force him to be a devout Catholic but dammit Nucky doesn't want that. :-X He wants to make money, smoke cigarettes, and drink.

I think he was very happy with Margaret before she gave all that land away without telling him first and now he doesn't really trust her ass...can't say I blame him there. He's using her just as much as she's using him. He likes the idea of being a family man but not the actual work that goes into it which is why he often throws money at the kids after telling them to behave. 'Don't be bad...here's a dollar.' lol I do think he does truly adore them though, especially the little girl...thought it was sweet during the easter egg hunt when he looked at her and said, 'Just point and I'll get it.' mushy

I don't think Nucky is a terrible guy based on what his sister-in-law was saying about how he was protective of his mother and Eli growing up. I just think a hard life of poverty and a mean father caused him to become a less than stellar guy. There have been soo many glimpses of the good Nucky but than he does some vile shit that makes you hate him. Margaret is the same exact way. You feel sorry for her because Nucky is cheating on her but technically, Nucky was with someone before he got with Margaret and she jumped in there and stole him (why can't I remember her name doh! ).

Now, Nucky is cheating on Margaret because: 1) once a cheater always a cheater usually; 2) he doesn't really trust Margaret after the land thing; and 3) he feels unloved by his wife and/or feels she's taken care of now; so, he has to take care of his new little chicky who has daddy problems. Either way, Margaret really isn't any better a person than Nucky because she's cheated on Nucky twice already and with Owen who she knows has a girlfriend, Molly. Their relationship is so complex but so simple at the same time. They are soo much alike it's creepy.

Next week looks to be good with Van Aldean finally going over to the dark side lol Can't wait for this one. yay!

nod Not only is he easy on the eyes but he's a quality actor who comes from a long lineage of the Huston acting dynasty. I think he does an excellent job with Richard's character. He truly brings the humanity side to what otherwise would be just another character who is a low level hit man.

I like Richard, too. He reminds me of my father as a young man, both fine as all get out.

I even thnk Richard is fine with his mask.
