How did you parents come up with your name?

My mom named after a character on one of her fave tv shows. What about you?

My mother had St. Peter in mind when naming me. In 1971 they had no idea there was another Peter Parker.

My parents thought they were having a boy, and had another name picked out.

The doctor said, "How about Lynn?"

They said, "Okay."

neutral

My middle name was my great grandmother's name.

My parents didn't want to know my sex until I was born so that they would be surprised..but my dad was hell bent that I was a boy, so I was going to be named after him and my grandfather, (my dad was a Jr. so I was going to the "III") but then when I was born, they of course found that I was a girl, so at first, my parents were going to have my first name as what is now my middle name, but I think it didn't sound right, so they switched it...my first name means "happy". lol

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

My mother was going to name me Renee, but my deceased grandmother believes that I am an reincarnated version of her daughter that died when she was three (my father was a twin) She says I am a angelic gift from heaven, so she names me Angela. Renee is my middle name. Wow, an angelic being reborn, it sounds like eek

Naming children in my family sometimes takes some pretty weird twists and turns. My crazy mother had the oh-so-cute idea to name me after a televison soap opera character from the 1960's. I suppose I should at least be grateful that I'm not one of the many women in my family who were given boys names just because, why not? Had I fallen to that fate, I would be having a name that on paper would have people mistaking me for a 70 year old white man. I suppose I should be grateful that I skimmed by with the soap opera moniker instead. In all seriousness, I could easily have ended up with a name that sounds like Bob Horton or Eli Rosenthal or something, I kid you not. disbelief

My Christian name is what my parents perceived to be the "Americanized" my dad's name (Reynaldo)...not fully realizing that their son would go around named with what's typically an Irish/English surname.

doh!

I'm named after my father. His grandmother named him, and our shared name is actually a surname of apparent Irish origin.

My dad's name was Daniel. My name is Danielle.

Thankfully I was born a girl because I'm pretty sure going through life being called Junior would have annoyed the fuck out of me. lol

My mom did not name me, a nun did. To make a long story short, I was very sick as a child and the doctor's did not know, if I was going to make it. I was born in a nursing home, that was run by nuns. It was one of those nuns, who named me Michael, after the arch angel. I found out years later that, my birthday, (Sept 29th) is "The Feast Of St. Michael's" day. He was a fighter so, and my mom says that I fought like hell to live. I guess the nun, knew what she was doing. My mom was going to name me, Keith after an actor that she liked named, Brian Keith. She said that she named my older brother, Brian and was going to name me, Keith...THANK GOD!, the nun beat her to it.... biggrin biggrin

Probably because they liked the way it sounds. I'm not named after anyone, nor are my brother or sister.

We chose our son's first name because we liked the way it sounds. We chose his middle names because his first one is the same as mine, and the second one is my wife's maiden name. There are no more males on her side of the family, so my son is carrying my wife's family name in that way.

We chose my daughter's name because we liked the way it sounds. We chose her middle name because we liked it, and my wife's sister has the same middle name.

My dad was originally going to name me Akeem Olajuwon after the basketball player but my mom was dead set against it lol so my dad named me after another basketball player (Jamaal Wilkes). I was originally was supposed to have two a's in my middle name but it came out as Jamal. I was named Timothy only because my father had a son named Timothy who died prematurely.
