Why do Americans hate football (soccer)? The greatest most beautiful game in the world is despised by our American friends, but why?
Why have they never fallen in love with football but prefer their dreadful "sports" instead, sports that no one else in the world can stand?

I bet that scumbag Leeds fan wouldn't have been so brave to hit 6'6'' Kirkland if they were both standing in a bar.
So glad they were relegated, hope they never return to the Prem.

I don't hate it. But I dig the American side of football more. That's all. I can kick a mean soccer ball though... [Edited 10/20/12 14:19pm]

Baseball is also huge in Latin America and Japan. It's arguably bigger in Japan than in North America.
Ice hockey is most popular in North America yes, but is also big in the colder European countries.
That just leaves American football as the only sport "no one else in the world can stand".

i dont think americans hate it ... it is getting much bigger here in the states .
when i was in high school , my school just started soccer . We sucked . I think we won one game my senior yr ...
but now it is everywhere . kids of all ages (boys and girls ) play it from an early age ...
So my point is , that it is getting more popular .
I do find it boring to watch ... in general .
It reminds me of golf . Or paint drying .

We have the NFL...what more could one want?
Seriously though, more and more Americans are loving soccer I'm told. I tried to watch the World Cup but I was bored. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Americans do seem to love sports involving incredibly big men crashing into each other in order to cause paralysis.
The rest of the planet remain bemused.

Don't European football dudes crash into each other during soccer and rugby matches? You seem to hate American football?

"We" like provocative titles for our threads don't we Bob?
I think hate is pretty strong word and incorrect, indifferent is a much better word.
American culture is entrenched in our seasons our cycles for sports, it damn near impossible for another sport to take root. If you don't know college sports (basketball and football) are huge in the States. The only time most Americans give a damn about Golf or Tennis is when an American is number one. The main factor for many Americans viewing Soccer as boring in part because they don't understand the game.... its nuances. Many American's view baseball a boring. Low scoring games wouldn't be seen as a duel between the pitcher and batters... how a catcher calls a game and a pitchers throws or the defensive plays.
I do have question about Soccer and it's scheduling, how does that work? From afar it seems those gents play soccer year around without much of a break.

Soccer is becoming more popular in the States, but American football is considered to be one of our most loved past times, and it generates a greater following because people in the US love that sport and are invested in it. People root for their hometeams and the sport is loved in the USA.
I don't think anyone in the USA hates soccer... its just not as popular is all.

Soccer has always been my favorite sport to play, it's one of the few sports where height really doesn't give you much of an advantage (except as a goalie).
It's one of my least favorite sports to watch because it's so damn boring, 95% of the time the ball is being kicked back and forth midfield. Shots on goal are rare, and when a team gets down by 2 or 3 goals the game is basically over. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

The answer is simple. You like soccer because you grew up with it while Americans love their sports because they grew up with it. You have an emotional attachment to your teams and it keeps you loyal to the sport.
I don't understand why you are so concerned with this topic. Why aren't you concerned about Canadians, Australians, or NZ people who also do not care for that sport. Also, for the record I dont find anything beautiful about soccer. It's so boring to watch in my opinion. ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

Well, it makes me laugh when two soccer guys feign injuries for absolutely no reson. It's hilarious because how can you get terribly hurt while playing soccer. ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

The Seattle Sounders professional soccer team sell out their venue for some of their games.
On a side note: We have professional women's basketball and they used the same venue as the professional men's team (when we had a men's team) and they sold more tickets per game (by a huge amount) then the men's team. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

It's anti-Americanism is what it is...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The real reason is that American men are intolerant of anyone who doesn't like the same things they do, and most of them think soccer is a wussy sport.
