Family History

How well do you know your family history?

I was blessed to know all of my great-grandparents & grandparents, but I'll admit that I don't know much about my family history.

My paternal grandmother looked up some of it, but never shared it.

not that well, i guess. my dad was working on a family history at the time of his death but i haven't read through it. i do kind of want to visit some of our ancestral places someday. just to get a feel for where we came from.

I know quite a bit about my family tree.

Recently found where an ancestor is buried, right down to the location of his grave site.

A fantastic gold mine for family tree stuff if the Mormon Family Centre. They help folks of all faiths (or no faith). They collect and store stuff. Check with a local mormon church.

Start from your family and work your way back.

I know a lot about my father's side of the family because one of my dad's cousins is really into the family history and has written a lot about it. That side of the family is massive. Now, my mother's side, I know almost nothing. My grandparents' last names are some of the most common hispanic names and all the older folks passed away. It's hard to find information sad

Know all about the Geneology Library. If you live in UT, you end up hearing about all that.

I've heard about that...supposedly the Mormon church keeps detailed geneological records about EVERYONE.

As for me, when I was 12 I did my family tree for a school project. Got names of my great-great grandparents...and that's as far as I got.

I'd need to go down to Honduras to get any further than that (if records even EXIST).

I know very little. My mom was born in Iowa and moved to Minnesota as a child. Her parents are/were farmers of German descent and only a few generations off the boat (my mom still sings some Xmas songs in German).

My dad grew up in north Minneapolis. His dad had only an 8th grade education and grew up logging in northern Minnesota. My great great something grandfather settled the town of Floodwood up north somewhere. Both of my grandparents on his side were Finnish (only a few generations off the boat as well) and both still spoke Finnish and attended church services conducted partly in Finnish.

And that’s about all I know.

The LDS Church keeps the records because their religion believes you can baptize someone into the LDS religion after they've died.

That I couldn't tell you, but I can tell you that in the past year, maybe two, the church has come under fire for members petitioning for Anne Frank and a very prominent Jewish couple (sorry, their names escape me) who were Holocaust Survivor Advocates, posthumously baptized LDS.

Don't know much.

Ive tried ancestry.com and the LDS database but i haven't been able to gather much information. I do know however that my paternal ancestry comes mainly from Texas and the maternal from Arkansas. Also there is some indication that Native American blood is present on both the paternal and maternal sides of my family.

like i said before, there is not a lot of definitive answers but i also found some evidence that i may be related to someone who was on the receiving end of a well known lynching that took place in Paris Texas in the late 1800's.

One of the main priorities i have in life is to find more information on my ancestry.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
