Heath Ledger comes to mind off the top of my head. He was kind of a teen heartthrob, doing kind of fluffy roles like in the Patriot and the Knight's Tale, but even in some of those, like that Venice one (Casanova?) there was foreshadowing of his brilliance in hindsight. Then his performance in "Brokeback Mountain" just destroyed me. It was brilliant. Then of course the Joker in "Batman." Then poof, he was taken from us. So knows what other great performances could have touched us had he lived.

He was awesome.

Tilda Swinton is the first one that comes to mind. I will watch any movie with her in it. Helen Mirren too.

She is just terrific. I've known about her for years, but wasn't really blown away until I saw her in Michael Clayton. She was most recently great in Moonrise Kingdom. I love what Bill Murray said about her:

She's tall. She's Scottish. She's pretty. She can do whatever she likes.

lol

I was surprised to hear that she learned Italian just for her starring role in the film I Am Love--and learned to speak it with a Russian accent. She did not say one word in English in the movie. Incredible.

I was really impressed with Rooney Mara's performance in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. According to Wiki, both she and Daniel Craig will reprise their roles in the two sequels, 'The Girl who Played with Fire' and 'The Girl who Kicked the Hornets' Nest'. Looking forward to them.

I was also...I watched the swedish versions of all 3 and I actually liked Rooney better than Noomi Rapace in the part. Most of the time I like the foreign films better but the American version of this one was much better imo. I can't wait for the next 2.

Christian Bale comes to mind.

He was 12 in "Empire of the Sun," and has had solid & excellent performances ever since.

Wow. I didn't know that.

Tilda is absolutely incredible. I've loved that woman since Orlando.

Tom Hanks.. Never saw him in anything I didnt like! Pretty much the same for Micheal Keaton...

Cant say there are any female actresses that I think are incredible... hmmm id have to think about that one...

I agree on both of these fine actors. they have such a range. I love their quirky comedy and they blow me away in the dramatic roles.

I just rewatched Lost in Translation. I went in with a show-me attitude the first time and thought it was overrated. I was wrong. Very good (as far as these made-up things go) and I thought she was excellent (as was Murray - and it pains me to say that, 'cause he gets on my tits).

DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Hanks, and Don Cheadle are more than hype. A few of my favorites-- Jack Nicholson, Edward Norton, and Al Pacino-- may play the same guy/themselves in every role but I still love their movies.
